Hey guys, I've just bought FALAA on vinyl (finally) and I want to know what edition/press it is however I have no idea how to find this out.

Have a listen to the title track; if it starts with a backwards drumbeat (AKA a big "whoosh" that almost sounds as if your vinyl's knackered) it's the original mixes, otherwise you've got one of the lower-quality "remasters".

I do hope you got the gatefold sleeved version...

What's the Gatefold sleeve version? I just found it in this record store in manchester yesterday.

From the codings on the previous link it's definitely Europe 1985, just if it's gatefold or not

Red and white text on the sleeve is the real version as well. Red only is the one you don't want.

Gatefold is nice but it's by no means necessary if you just want the music.

The record shop is called Clampdown Records I think in Manchester, they have an online shop too. Got plenty of TSOM stuff including This Corrosion and Dominion single as well as ToL EP and many bootlegs/interviews.

Good for you man. Good for you. Bit of a side line but I clearly remember being 16 and catching the 16a from Wetherby to Leeds to go and buy my gatefold copy of FALAA the day it came out. You don't get the same sensation in these days of instant gratification, getting your music took longer in those days and I'd heard no previews. First there was the the bus to Leeds, the purchase (with a few other Leeds goths holding on to their copies), then the 40 minute bus journey home. The 20 minute walk from town to home. You almost didn't want to break the plastic film... but I did. Then there was the slight pull of the static as the vinyl resisted. I f**ked up and put side B of FALAA on first. But people - what an awesome sound and track. To this day I get a buzz when I listen to FALAA. That LP went with me to the school 6th form, parties, friends houses, on holiday. So many people wanted a copy off me I had a bit of a waiting list. Boy did it work with the girls. Very few things in life have had such an impact on me but this record sure did. This and Hatful of Hollow by The Smiths. So dude, any copy of FALAA is good unless it's the, in my opinion, inferior Japanese version they pressed on CD in 1988 (how could they screw up the title track so badly????). Nice addition to your collection!!

Found Clampdown Records back in 2000 when cruising Manchester waiting for the sisters to play later that day. What still bothers me that they had both Damage Done and Echoes (vinylbox) and I only had cash to buy one

That's sad brother. I'm sure it'll turn up one day. I went to see the Smiths in 1986. in 2013, 27 years later, I found a DVD video bootleg of the self same concert. I was gob smacked. Patience is a virtue.

Listening to it now for the first time while doing the housework. IT'S SO GOOD!

FALAA went on heaviest rotation on my record player and only went off it when it was scratched beyond recognition...
