Yeah, I'm not going to append this to the existing slightly depressed thread; it just looks like whining after the last few posts of that thread.

But...

I am currently p*ssed off by the fact that the boiler in our house has broken down. Given that it is about 20 years old, I am not optimistic that it is repairable, and installation of a new one will basically wipe out the funds we had saved for a holiday this year.

Get it fixed, ramp up the heat and pretend you iz in Barbados.

perhaps it could be locked , out of respect, so that no-one unthinkingly does what you didn't?
