Anyone know much about PDF files? For some reason, since yesterday any PDF I try tom open on my Windows 8 laptop just opens as the same one ie when I open PDF1 I actually get PDF1, but if I open PDF2, 3, 4 etc I still get PDF1. Anyone know why this would happen and what I should do about it?

Which pdf viewer are you using, and did you install an update the day before yesterday?

Yep, that will be the built-in Windows 8 pdf viewer then
Pain in the arse, that... The GF gets this on her Win8 laptop all the time and it does her head in
Here's how she gets past it:
- Click on a PDF to jump into the windows pdf viewer app (which will probably open the original pdf again - not the one you want)
- Hit CTRL + F4 to quite the app (Otherwise it just sits in the background)
Once you've quit the app properly you should be able to open your other PDFs in the way you'd expect

You can always install adobe reader & set it up as a default application for pdf files.

Or Foxit Reader if you don't like Adobe (although that's becoming a bit bloated itself these days...)

I've wondered ever since I got the Win8 machine whether some apps were closing properly or just running in the background.
Hitting CTRL + F4 did nothing but hitting ALT + F4 did close the viewer. However now whenever I open a PDF it's just blank!

Now that I think about it, there were some updates installed in the last few days. Don't know if they updated the PDF viewer too cos Win8 doesn't actually tell you what the updates are.
I may end up installing Adobe as
Pista suggests. Although that's a pain in the arse too cos of the way
it handles updates.

You can also try PDF-XChange Viewer (Freeware)

I use another freeware, Nitro Reader. I don't know if it's paticularly good - I don't use it much except for printing the occasional train ticket and things like that - but it hasn't done me any harm either.
