BBC Radio 2 are having a poll on the 100 greatest guitar riffs.

Radio 2 Top 100 Greatest Guitar Riffs Vote
As part of the Guitar Season of programmes on Radio 2, we're asking you to vote for what you consider to be the Greatest Guitar Riff Ever?

The vote is open from midday on Monday 14 July and closes at 5pm on Friday 25 July 2014.

Tune in to Radio 2 on Monday 25 August to hear the results!

A panel of guitar music experts, made up of Radio 2 presenters, music critics and record producers were selected to pick the 100 guitar riffs, they are: Janice Long â€“ Radio 2 Presenter, Bob Harris â€“ Radio 2 Presenter, Richard Allison - Radio 2 Presenter, Gideon Coe â€“ 6 Music Presenter, Steve Levine â€“ Music Producer, Paul Sexton â€“ Music journalist and broadcaster, Sunday Times, Radio 2, Sian Llewellyn â€“ Editor, Classic Rock Magazine.

For the purpose of this vote a guitar riff has been defined as 'the main hook of a song and must be played principally by a guitar. It often begins the song, but is repeated throughout it, giving the song its distinctive voice.'

it follows that they are counting bass guitars too, given that Money's main hook/ signature is the bass line

I would imagine that Nirvana will be right up there with the current demographic Radio 2 is aiming for.
Think I will probably just go for The Kinks as most of the others seem to be retreads of the original two of three riffs.
Good to see Billy Duffy recognised as a top "riffer" but I'd probably have Daniel Ash, Geordie and (why not) Gary Marx in there too, along with John McGeoch although I believe that it was Howard Devoto who came up with the legendary "Shot By Both Sides" riff.
