Funny how (former Radio One in-house producer later turned DJ) Mark Radcliffe could get a decent sound out of these songs with just one day's recording for the four tracks.

At the time I was taping whole JP shows and had never heard of the girls.Going to school the next day with my walkman and hearing this was the moment I got into them.

I too heard TSOM first on Peel. So many fans as well as bands have so much to thank him for. This 1984 session was I suppose part of the band's thank you, with the only (until 1988) recorded version of Emma (which did well in peel's Festive 50 that year) and the early version of NTTC with the verse still very much work in progress, and therefore a tantalising glimpse into Von's songwriting process.

Funnily enough so did I, even though I almost never listened to Peel! I'd spent a summer in a caravan in the middle of nowhere, and I ended up listening to Radio 1 almost constantly. Even after we got back to civilisation, I still occasionally listened to some of the shows I never normally tuned into, and one evening I put on Peel and heard the Sisters for the first time. No idea what it was, or even whether it was a single, a session or an album track. I just remember being impressed.

And then never hearing them again until This Corrosion.

Here's Peel playing the Sisters (Kiss The Carpet) in 83, with DJ patter on either side. The Alan McGee he refers to after the is the same Alan McGee who would have been discovering the JAMC around about the same time (although I'm sure you all know that!).

I've got the clip of Peel playing Floorshow in 1981 as well, which I'll dig up and post later if there's interest in this kind of thing. I'd still love to hear a recording of the original spin(s) of The Damage Done, I've trawled through every 1980/81 Peel show I could get my hands on and never a sniff. I'm still not convinced he played it

so you were at that gig! i thought i spotted you near the mercy stand atone point but lost you in the crowd...

was alan hanging around the sound desk? we were stood just behind that bit and there was a chap looking suspiciously like him wearing a sheepskin coat and fur-lined flying hat hanging about near inside mixing desk area

I love that McGee is still pals with the Reid bros after all these years. For all his latter day faults (Oasis etc), the run that Creation had from the House of Love to Ride or thereabouts was jaw-droppingly good. I remember seeing a discography for the label once and realising that I'd bought well over half of everything they'd put out for a good 4 years. Never done that for a single record label before or since.

Anyways, we digress, that 1984 Peel session. Great ... but what about that 1980 Peel debut?!

i was looking for you in Manc. We went to the the Salisbury before and after the gig so i could hunt you out In Manc i ended up front row, centre stage, which was nice

Alan watched the gig from near the main entrance (so rhs of stage looking on). he looked a wee bit like uncle fester with square shades, all in black.

I remember the festive 50 from 85 I could tell John Peel wasn't impressed with marian or stranger I'm sure his comment was rum tum tum after playing marian!!!

Are they truly lossless or was the stream compressed?

If you refer to the BBC 6music broadcasts from a few years back then yes they do have the usual DAB compression, but they do sound better than my old recordings.
