FPL GW17: Preview, update and review (Deadline 20Dec 11:30)

Here we go again, but GW17 simply whets our appetite for the maelstrom that follows. If you haven't been paying attention IGM, please do pay attention now. After GW17 we have:

GW18: Deadline: Friday 26Dec 11:30
GW19: Deadline Sunday 28Dec 11:30
GW20: Deadline Thursday 01Jan 11:30

For those of you calendaresque, yes, that's three FPL GW deadlines in six Earth days.

Once you factor in the usual injuries and suspensions, a new, unwanted, element rears its ugly head.

Rest and rotation. It's the bane of Nigels, that sees us sticking pins into voodoo dolls of real-life managers, but it needs to be dealt with.

Every few players will play all three games in six days, considering the FA Cup 3rd Round starts on Friday 02Jan.

So all those ignored red/orange flags, need to be dealt with. 15-starters for GWs18-20 is highly recommended. If it involves transfers hits, so be it.

This FPL period usually descends into carnage and confusion, but myself and Pista will try to keep a handle on it.

It's a roller coaster, but let's make it happen IGM!

Good luck! :von:

I've posted the link on TCC but feel free to rip any of my post into the 'secret' forum.

It's bums on seats, innit.

cheers for the heads up Johnny. i had already employed strategies that maximise my transfer requirements. after GW17 i should have 3 free transfers in the bank to enable whatever's needed. i'm still languishing (unfairly i feel) at 17th place but feel my game is about to ascend on all planes.

>>if it was real life i'd sell the team and retire comfortably with the £400,000 value my team has accrued.<<

Max free transfers you can have in any one GW Lee is 2.
FPL Rules wrote:If you do not use your free transfer, you are able to make an additional free transfer the following Gameweek. If you do not use this saved free transfer in the following Gameweek, it will be carried over until you do. You can never have more than 1 saved transfer.
Just a heads-up.

And there is always the possibility that your team might be in the fantasy football cup which starts in game week 18.

Qualifying

The top 2,097,152 scorers in Gameweek 17 will enter the first round. If there are more than 2,097,152 qualifiers then there will be a random draw amongst the lowest scorers to see who qualifies.

How it works

Each qualifying team will be randomly drawn against another in the first round. The winner (the team with the highest gameweek score minus any transfer points), will progress to the second round and another random draw, the losers are out! This process continues until the final Gameweek when the two remaining teams contest the cup final.

If a cup match is drawn, then the following tie-breaks will be applied until a winner is found:

Most goals scored in the Gameweek
Fewest goals conceded in the Gameweek
Virtual coin toss

I'm usually beaten by a ghost team in GW18 so lose interest, but last year I did get to the last 16. Before getting beaten by a ghost team.

If memory serves me correct, didn't a ghost team (from India?) win it last year but FPL couldn't track down him/her and the prize was forfeited?

There's a cup?

Oh my (as if I stand any chance of qualifying).

Details (that Graham has just quoted) viewable after Global leagues, and before Transfers & Finance, on the side bar on the right of My team/Points etc.

my placing qualifies me for the cup...there doesn't seem much point to the cup really, just a free game. FPL has priority anyway.

cheers again John. :notworthy: whole lotta transfers going on!

Thanks @Johnny for the advice as ever. Changes duly made - just need a change of fortune. Hopefully Damage Dunfermline won't need to follow the lead of the real Dunfermline FC who have just sacked their long-serving manager. All the forthcoming matches will at least make life more interesting during the interminable relative visits over the next two weeks.

being sacked by your fantasy team would be most unfortunate.

Trying to watch the pennies here, but I think I might have a new strategy.
May employ.

Warnock's put Gayle on the bench again!

It was interesting to watch 129,00 managers pile into Clichy last week only for him to not even be on the bench today.

Beginning to regret putting Speroni in goal now :(

Inspired transfer and captaincy selection by Johnny with Silva. He's going to score 32 points for FC Bennweg-Zeis 1921

Cheer up Stevie. Gayle's no-show means you'll get Zabs 9pts of the bench. And he's in the running for bonus. Every cloud and all that.

After Lukaku's dreadful game against QPR last Monday I decided to give him one more chance to show he knows where the net is.

And today he's shown that he does indeed know where the net is.......just a shame it happened to be in his own goal.

So bounce back Nik for the glory of IGM. Participation is all I ever ask. :notworthy:

Bum GW? Move on. Turn the red and orange to blue.

It's fast and furious in the next few GWs. Some of us will get it wrong, some of us will get it right. Or a combo of both. Hang on in there as every point counts. :von:

I've pulled the trigger on Lukaku.

An absolute waste of £9m / £27m depending on if you're in the FF world or the real one.

Which is why my 'rent boys' did the deal. Solid profit for us.

Did you go Kane or Carroll? I've shipped Shrek for Rev. Kane.
