Was just wandering around the supermarket when a version of This Corrosion come on. Not the Sisters and not Lambchop. Presumably someone recent as the rest of the music was Radio 1 fodder. Female vocalist. Anyone know who it is?

Ah I do believe you're right. :D I'd forgotten about her version. I think there was an animated debate a few years ago on it around here. It was quite good and very different. Which isn't a bad thing.

On the one side, Birch has a good voice and some musical talent. Easy on the eyeballs too, which doesn't hurt.

One the other, my feeling is that her rendition strips the imagery and emphasis from the song and turns it into a collection of words that don't hang together.

Just my two penn'orth, of course. My feeling about covers is, you should bring something new to it. Bauhaus' Ziggy Stardust and Telegram Sam, TSOM's Emma and Jolene, even Soft Cell's Where Did Our Love Go, were additive and differentiating, whereas Birch's rendition of This Corrosion doesn't take the song to new places, IMHO. Annoyingly, her original stuff is actually quite good, the little I've heard, so I question why she feels the need to cover existing material.
