V weird tech problem. Any ideas?

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. For ages now, I have been happily running in my home wifi network with my macbook pro, a moto x (1st gen), an android tablet, a Playbook & even my AV amp. Often more than one at the same time.
So far, all good. No connection issues, save the odd ISP hiccup.
Recently, I acquired a new Moto X Pure Edition phone running android marshmallow.
I started migrating everything from the old moto x to it & connected to the wifi network, as per usual.
Suddenly my default browser (Safari) decides to hang as soon as the new phone is on the network. Just this browser
I have other browsers installed (firefox, chrome, tor et al) to test my forum on so I can be sure it works on them all.
Oddly, none of the other browsers seem affected. Just Safari. Done all the reboots, cache clearing, router diagnostics, fiddled with Safari settings & even all the wifi/ network settings, but to no avail. I get about 3 minutes & then it all snarls up again.
So, this is a long shot, but I know there are some IT professionals in our ranks & wondered if anyone had any ideas what I should probably be looking at next?
Have asked on both moto user's & safari support forums & no working solutions this far.

Also done a clean install of safari.

Thing that's most puzzling is the fact that the new phone seems to trigger it & that it's ONLY safari that carks. :?

Can you monitor connections on your wifi router? I'd bet that there's a conflict between a connection id or hardware id that your phone uses and the same as is used by Safari.
If I told them once, I told them a hundred times to put 'Spinal Tap' first and 'Puppet Show' last.

I did have a poke around in the router interface & all the id's & devices appear to have unique names & IPs etc.
You got a specific setting in mind I should be prodding in particular?

This is a long shot, but try turning off "N" on the wireless router and just run with the older "G" and below.

Wow! :eek:
That seems to have done the trick.
I'll keep an eye on it though. I thought I'd cracked it with a tweak to the user agent setting a day or so ago & it wasn't long before it hung all over again.
