Hi there,

What are your views on the release of that Sisters dvd? I spoke to Chris during the last tour and he said he was working on it and a release would be imminent. Do you guys think we'll see a release before the end of the year?

Is the DVD supposed to come out before or after the promised release of Summer?

The DVD would be easy enough to do, since all the material is already present from filmed concerts, etc, and it can be distributed outside of the normal record company channels. Having some product out would also do no harm in securing a record deal.

An interesting situation is that my absolute fave band, Spiritualized, found themselves in a position earlier this year where they had no record deal but a full LP of new material ready to roll. So somehow it managed to wind up being leaked onto the internet, a very good word of mouth buzz built up, and now the LP is coming out, they have a very good record deal with total creative freedom, and it may possibly end up being their most successful.

Maybe someone should be paying attention to this?

When I spoke to Chris about this, he was more noncommittal. When I asked why everything (ALL of their gigs) was being recorded on video, he actually made a really enigmatic comment to the effect that 'everything needs to be archived'. I didn't quite get what he meant by this, and didn't pursue it, because I wanted to get him onto the topic which seemed more important to me at the time - record deal progress, or lack of it. But I'm sure the material is there, and I'm sure it could be put together in a month or three. If it ISN'T released, my personal guess would be that Adam would have vetoed the release of his prize songs - albeit only on DVD - in the absence of a Major deal. But this is just speculation, as always with our underactive, uncommunicative Sisters...

The main difference there being that Von is almost Metallica-ish about giving away music, wheras Jason Pierce is all for it.

Yer right about Von too, but maybe there's something he could learn from Jason's approach, eh?

I dont think we will ever see it, i really dont. Its said that Von blagged that there would be various releases on the last tour to get the gigs..... perhaps this was a bit of a half-myth to that end. When all is said and done i bet we can guess the set and songs that would be on it anyway....

On one hand ide like it, on the other i cant say it would be promising to be anything special. Mixed bag of new tracks and a few old ones.... well.... mediocre for me.

I'd be very excited, simply because something is better than nothing. The concerts wouldn't be much to look at, and judging on past performance they wouldn't be bending over backwards to add in extras, interviews etc. BUT, I would love some more half-decent, halfway-produced quality recordings of the new songs along the lines of Suzanne on their website, if only to listen to on the computer. There's not much in it, but it's sort of halfway between listening to a reasonable boot and actually getting a record. It might get me through the barren years ahead...

Nothing earth-shattering. Just what I've said elsewhere, which is that they've had loads of interest from companies, quite sincerely - but they're still struggling to get what they're currently asking for - half a million. Oh, the earth-shattering bit was that a new record would quite likely contain COMPLETELY NEW songs - i.e. not necessarily the Adam P collaborations. I think Chris would be actively involved in writing. For some reason, they seem to want to wait until they get a record deal before they write these new songs. Perhaps that's because otherwise we'll all somehow hear them first, or they want them to be fresh at the time.

In terms of the deal, perhaps it's working like a Dutch auction, where you cut the price until someone finally says 'yes' - because they were asking for quite a bit more in recent years. Or, half a million might be the least Eldritch would contemplate. I personally feel that, with revenue for a DVD added on, they could easily manage to self-finance and self-release, perhaps with an internet subscription option. But as we know, Von has exacting standards in terms of production, and as it is rumoured, Adam has exacting standards in terms of paypacket and the kind of record company he's prepared to deal with. This last paragraph is speculation only.

I'd love to own an official Sisters DVD, but I very much doubt one will ever be released. I mean, why haven't they announced a release date or anything? even if they are planning to include footage of the April tour, surely it would be ready by now? (how long can it take to select some good footage, and edit it a bit?)

this is typical Sisters incompetence. It actually makes me a bit angry the way AE keeps offering us vague hope of tantalising future releases, then crawling back to his cave and never following up his announcements. it leaves us fans desperately fighting for scraps, grabbing at the hope of ANY new product ANYTIME.

So Von, if you do read this forum (as is rumoured), either get your arse in gear or stop making promises you can't keep.

I have no competence in this area, but from experience of other bands, what would be an average time to elapse between a concert series, and a video or dvd? My guess would be six months to a year, or even more. Or have other bands turned things around more quickly? Any ideas?

as I remember it "waves upon the sand" came out within 6 months of the "Around the Islands" ?? tour which featured much of the vid
