a question from an utterly unknowing...

THE place for your Sisters-related comments, questions and snippets of Sisters information. For those who do not know, The Sisters of Mercy are a rock'n'roll band. And a pop band. And an industrial groove machine. Or so they say. They make records. Lots of records, apparently. But not in your galaxy. They play concerts. Lots of concerts, actually. But you still cannot see them. So what's it all about, Alfie? This is one of the few tightly-moderated forums on Heartland, so please keep on-topic. All off-topic posts will either be moved or deleted. Chairman Bux is the editor and the editor's decision is final. Danke.

As some might have read in my introduction post, I've been out of the sisters circuit for a while.
When I came back they changed their livesets into a more metal/rock (blasphemy?) kind of sound. presumably it was the logic consequense after the vision thing album. Although I do miss some songs in their more dark versions, I must say I love some of the old songs in the new Jacket.

with all the recordings out there its quit overwhelming to start looking for "the best live recording of the last couple of years", especially since this is also open for debate.... so I'm counting on the unlimited knowledge of this fine piece of social media to point me in the right direction.

anyway, a lot of words for a simple question:

what is the, in your opinion, best live recording? (and prefferably, where can I get it? )

thanx in advance...
too much but never enough.....

Most recent live recordings are excellent, so take your pick really.
The sharing board should point you in the right direction.
You might even find the Suikerrock shows you mentioned earlier ;)
Cheers.

You might also check the Live Bootlegs section in the SistersWiki for an overview.
Most recordings listed there are also in circulation round here somehow ... even those without a page (as yet) in the wiki.

And you might check the Gigography.
Many pages about the more recent concerts have vids from the gig, so you can check whether you like the sound or the atmosphere of any special gig ...

thanks for the replies

I allready checked the wiki and even downloaded the berlin 2016 gig because "Doc" claimed it is one of the "okayest".

and although it's the sisters and it's always "great" I would appreciate some personal opinions on the matter. I would be nice to know what gigs or recordings people really liked... and especially the reason "why" kind of tickles my interest....

might even be an idea to do a Poll about this to find out which recording is "liked" by the most people... but that's just me going over the top probably..

I just find there is something parculiar about live recordings...once in a while there is a live version of a song that just surpasses the original song in an epic way...
I have a recording of "round here" from the counting crows at the operahouse in sydney and a live version of "fingers of love" from crowded house...both of these are an example of what I mean (although I do realise its a very different genre of music)...

if anybody knows what I mean, I'll be interesed to know if you have a song or two like that too... sisters or not...
too much but never enough.....

There are a couple of threads here that might be worth a glance :)

I tend to look first for shows I went to, but after a while you get used to certain tapers & how good their recordings are.
You looking at any specific era?
Cheers.

Yes, often enough, there are versions of songs played live that are just extraordinary.
The version of Flood II in Glasgow 2014 was absolutely to my liking and very different from any other version of this song before.
Of what I've seen this year, I found We Are The Same, Susanne in Tilburg a great performance ... unfortunately, there seems to be no recordings of it ... *sigh ...

And the whole gig at M'era Luna in 2010 or the one at The Assembly in Leamington the same year ... great concerts!
For me the first gigs of a tour are always particularly exiting and entertaining, although, The Sisters always improve underway
with tremendously great concerts towards the end of the schedule (like Fribourg this year) ... ;D ...
I think last year Nottingham was the best party in a long time as well ... ;D  ...
