Both fine choices. But I am bias because I really AM Gold.
(Pista is obviously Musclebound. And Swinow's ex must have boundary issues.)

I seem to recall Lloyd Cole was fond of dropping literary references a fair bit too, Simone de Beauvoir and Norman Mailer being the ones that spring to mind.
