Photobucket Changes

I had a post on facebook a few days ago pointing out that the pictures on my "Sisters Wardrobe" thread we no longer viewable.
https://www.myheartland.co.uk/viewtopic.php?t=20581

I've looked into it and it seems that Photobucket no longer allow third party hosting for free. For me to carry on the service they want $59.99 a year. Given that their site is already horrible to use because of the adverts I think I will decline.
Apologies.

This has left a bit of a trail of destruction on a lot of forums with broken images & images replaced with their default "please login to upgrade" image (curious as to how that uses any less bandwidth than the existing shared images, but oh well).
Some people have had their library blocked unless they stump up $400 & they have been accused of holding users to ransom.
Imgur did the same thing last year some time.
I am using postimage these days.
I was using photobucket for photoshop threads on fark, but I've downloaded my library now & botophucket can do one!

That is terrible and just blackmail ... fortunately, almost all pictures in the SistersWiki are located directly there ...
and of those that are not, I have copies somewhere ... :| ...

Next step will be for f***book to ask people to pay them for let them operate their groups, if they want to go on ...

and who would not all be caught on the wrong foot, especially as all content belongs to FB now ... :urff:   ...

Just joking, but be prepared! ... ...

Thank God we have our little sweet community in here and we raise our independence flag from those blackmailers :) ;D

photobucket can f**k off! i collect a lot of images of variying subjects using tabbed browsing and different image search sites, and any images hosted on photobucket A) take forever to appear due to the excessive java-script they use which also B) slows the whole browser up, not just that tab.
a ball-ache for their free customers but there are many, many much more user-friendly free image-hosts out there. good riddance!

Just remember folks, any online service that (a) you don't pay for and (b) is advertising-funded: You are the product, being sold to advertisers.

Exaclty, every "free" websites, webhosting sites charge or will charge us, otherwise we are/will be sold to ads companies.

It's one thing having individual images borked by photofcuket.
Here's what a forum looks like when the banner & background images are there.

Pretty innit?

I know right?
I'm hoping the poor sod that owns that forum has a single image that is just tiled in the template. Otherwise, that's a lot of work.

Nope. They slipped it into their terms of service & 2 days later users were stuffed.

Well, some people don't read the small print
& like Fiendy said. The users are the product being sold to the advertisers

Exactly, they've done nothing wrong, but maybe something as important as that it would have been nice of them to send an email to everyone to say 'we're gonna charge you'

I'm one of those people that's always looking for the catch - trust no-one

It will only get worse in the future, you won't even be able to wipe your arse in peace without something popping up out of somewhere trying to flog you loo roll.
