Some Kind of Stranger

As part of a series of blog posts about some of the songs and versions which never saw the light of day in the 80's, I've taken a detailed look at the Early version of Some Kind of Stranger which was finally released in 2006 : https://sistersfan.blogspot.co.uk/2018/ ... early.html

So I thought it might be interesting to gather views here about which version of the song people prefer...

I went with CN/SKOS because I am a sucker for CN... That combo was really stonking with Bruhn/Pearson on axes.

They're all great (though i think the FALAA version is my least favourite - which still doesn't make it less than great), but i have to go with the 90's live version...some of those performances are transcendental.

Honestly I've always preferred Killdozer's take on it.

Original album version for me.
It's too solemn & personal to be a live song.
For me it's something you need to sit down & absorb.
Even if it was supposed to be a wedding march

Good point, too.

I don't agree, but I certainly do sympathize!

I love all of these versions. They are unique and offer something that strongly counts for them. Nonetheless any order in my opinion can only be

1 Some Kind Of Stranger (Early) - the real thing, a pity they had to change it

2 Comfortably Numb/Some Kind Of Stranger - a perfect combination, an endless act of philantrophy

3 Some Kind Of Stranger (album version) - a piece of art, unparalelled before

4 Some Kind Of Stranger (live 84/85) - as I love all sorts of improvisation, none of these would ever disappoint me

4. Not even the missing verse?

Cause and effect go hand in hand ... not more, not less.

Defo the CN segue version, I recall the shock and awe of seeing it for the first time.

Album version (original vinyl mix pref RobZombied to the highest definition) all day long.
Numbfortably Cum segued into SKOS really doesn't work for me (can't stand CN for starts) admittedly i have only heard recordings and although i am sure it was [insert superlative of choice] for those present, i wasn't. the early version is nice in the same way that all demos/unfinished versions are but the "england in the morning/i haven't slept for days.." verse doesn't fit with the rest of the song and presumably that's why it was scrapped.

It’s like asking parents to choose between their children!
