"I was wrong"

Name some things Von was wrong about.

I'll start with Suede, whom he dismissed (in the Bowie interview) as mere Ziggy rip-off merchants. Of course, Ziggy and 70's glam were influences - so what? Now looking back over Suede's career (and even at the time - has Von ever even heard, let alone listened to Dog Man Star?) there's no question about them being a highly distinct and justifiably acclaimed band.

Oh, and while we're at it, he was wrong about '1. Outside' as well and still is, apparently. There are some great songs on that album, by any standard. 'Strangers When We Meet' alone is a candidate for Bowie's best song.

Absolutely... ... that record is a clear masterpiece. And very necessary at the time.

Though 'Strangers When We Meet' is not on all the standard releases, AFAIK, so he might have missed it ... ...

Contractual fulfillment via a ripping live album recorded in 1997-1998. Wasn't there even talk about the Dark Christmas in London show having been recorded for just such a purpose?

It would have to have been earlier than that. 1997 was the SSV/War on Drugs year.

When was the one-off in Philadelphia? I'm getting old. Can't recall. That incarnation of the band could have made a stonking live record.

Hamburg '90 was recorded for release.

Suede has always been a class a band. I couldnt share his criticism here. Glam Rock sounds more like T. Rex (htats really a bit s**t) but Suede is a lot more than that, with lots of grat stuff b sides (painted People and so on)

Man Utd top on stage. Had a scarf around his waist too, the day after he watched them at the 91 European Cup Winners final.



Best show I ever saw them play and we have Man Utd to thank for it.

Not gone on strike.

There's a lot to thank Manchester United for. Imagine how much extra bile there'd be circulating round people's brains if they hadn't had United to direct it at over the last 20 years.

As for Von, Chairman Bux posted on here years ago that his on-off support switched off permanently when they became a PLC in 92. So, a glory hunter from the days when they were anything but, deserves a peculiar sort of respect for that, I suppose.

It is nice to observe that all the muppets are wearing Liverpool and city shirts these days, I must say. You're welcome to them.
