Vision (a lurker here on the board and close friend of mine) pointed out an article in Belgian Magazine 'HUMO'. It was an interview with Luc and Eppo Janssen (father and son), doing radio programs on Belgian national radio 'Studio Brussel'.
Somewhere in the interview, our nearest and dearest Von is mentioned, and here is what they got to say about him, in Dutch:
And here is an approximate translation:
"[My] friendship with Andrew Eldritch of The Sisters Of Mercy was the one that [of all others] lasted the longest. Occasionally we went to a VUB-Party (NOTE: VUB= Vrije Universiteit Brussel, or Open University of Brussels), where he was never recognised due to his glasses and the lack of a black velvet snakeskin coat. But he went soooo way off track with drugs, I feared he would empty my house or abuse my children. When we had the odd meeting after that, it was always very exciting to anticipate what condition he'd be in. I used to walk into the lobby of his hotel, heard him answer the waiter's question 'bout what he fancied with 'something green', and I immediately knew the evening was ruined (laughs)"
Anyone feeling compelled to correct my translation, please do so...
Karin?

And here's Vision back once again ...
Due to a (much too) long absence and, as a consequence, an inactive account I registered myself again ...
So from now on "Vision" is outta here, "13Vision13" is here to stay ... Greetz to all of you.
'bout the "something green" article ...
As Izzy said, I (accidently) discovered it reading a Belgian magazine.
Having no clue at all what he might be drinking, I can very well imagine what that night brought ...
Oh what a (k)night ...

I hafta correct something in my translation before you all start talking about food.
In Dutch 'drinken' means 'to drink' (obviously).
I translated 'de ober vroeg wat hij wou drinken' as 'the waiter asked what he fancied', but it's a rather free translation. A better one 'd be: 'the waiter asked him what he'd like to drink'.
So here goes.
Absinth? Anyone?

Besides, to the best of my knowledge, absinthe was forbidden in most of Europe until 1998-1999.

Red Horse Beer from the Philippines is the one to drink. They say it makes ya not give a f-ck about anything. Popular with 16 year olds, I hear. Watch out!

We have everything in this wonderful country.
But I prefer Mão Morta. They sing in Portuguese so it's natural you've never heard of them. Intellectual rock gods indeed!
(I bet Eldritch would love to meet Adolfo Lúxuria Canibal. Both love phylosophy. They would have a lot to talk about.)
