Is this what white-walled is.

Was his Eldorado white-walled?

When the wheels are spinning around

I guess you got it. Good find! I‘m sure our Eldo was aware of that.

Wait.

Did some folks not actually know "white-walled" referred to the white-walled tyres, as found on classic cars of yesteryear?

I just assumed that was a given :|

oh yeah, totally :D

maybe it's a cultural thing - 50s cars and their aesthetic, rock and roll, stephen king's Christine, the stray cats, grease, etc etc - the idea of cars with white-walled tyres was just everywhere for me when i was growing up.

i kinda just assumed it was one of those things that was harder to not know than it was to know

like how in 2021 it's harder to have not ever seen Star Wars than otherwise

QB, I think it's just another reminder of our increasing age.

Btw, I can't be the only one who thinks those 50's and 60's Yank tank gas guzzlers look awful to European eyes.

I must admit I love them. Yeah they might kill the planet but there's something ridiculously great about them. You have to admit a Ford Escort or a Hillman Hunter really doesn't compare. Kind of comparing a wet February night in Halifax to well, anything else.

Same here. It's an English expression.
I don't even know how they call that type of tyres in German ...
All I remember is they disappeared decades ago.

Actually I felt a little embarrassed that I didn‘t realise it before. In German I think they‘re called the same - „Weißwandreifen“
And I love old cars too, really should have known. :innocent:
