Does anyone remember The Tube back in the 80's on channel 4 in the UK?
I found a YT channel that is gradually uploading the whole lot (albeit with some copyrighted stuff removed).
You need to check the descriptions under each episode to see who's on them, but there are some brilliant live performances tucked away in that lot.
Such a shame there's nothing like that on TV these days. It was a superb platform for emerging acts at the time.

It was one of the few things we actually watched back in Uni days.

I used to have a video tape cued up on pause ready to tape stuff I liked when it came on.
There's nothing like it any more.
There was an interesting piece in Teh Graun today about that Jools Holland show which seems to be the only platform for live performances these days. The comments are quite interesting.

The uploads are still going from this guy & they seem to be from master reels/ tapes from the studio with the countdown clock at the start & after each commercial break.
But, perhaps more interesting than anything else, the live sets aren't faded out when the closing credits roll.
That's to say, when originally broadcast, the credits would roll & whoever was performing at the time would be faded out until the Tyne Tees TV logo appeared.
I just watched s02e24 with The Cure's first appearance which finished with The Top & there's about 3 or 3 minutes of the song ending that was never broadcast originally.
One of the earlier episodes with The Cult has them playing half a dozen songs. Bands only ever used to play 3 on the broadcast before being faded out.
Also, the 1984 Banshees one has Swimming Horses added on which a don't remember ever being aired live. Sioux even turns to Robert to say, "You ready fat boy?"

I was lucky enough to get on their ticket mailing list somehow, so went to four or five of them. The only issue was that the tickets arrived the day before, so you had to be free to go.
beautifully chaotic it was; bands, presenters and guests running all over the place.
The best was The Damned, who ended with smash it up - which they did.
Afterwards we went to the pub over the road from the studio, which was empty apart from an old guy at the bar, The Damned sitting in one corner, and the other guest band Hanoi Rocks.
Dave Vanian was flicking beer mats at them. They were a bit offish with us at first, but when i produced my Stawberries album , with the smelly inner sleeve, and realised we were fans they happily signed it and we had a couple of pints with them.

I still cannot believe they didn't get The Sisters on The Tube live. That would have been something to behold

Looking at The Tube's broadcast dates, they were too late to get them in 1983 on Series 2 after Temple of Love would have been such a huge hit on the Independant Chart, and that series ended in April 1984. Series 3 started broadcasting in October 1984, by then they'd released Walk Away and were on the Black October Tour and the Stage Act was using rather a lot of Smoke on Stage, maybe far too much for TV
