Best available versions?

Hello all

Now that the dust has well and truly settled after last year's tour, I wonder whether any consensus has developed amongst Heartland folks on the best available versions of the new new, '20-22 songs, from 'But Genevieve' through to 'On The Beach'? By 'best' I mean sound quality: clarity, volume, etc. I meant to compile a definitive playlist last year but never quite got round to finishing it

Consensus? Unlikely, everyone will most likely have their own opinions on which versions sound best to them. Everyone has the same access to the same recordings, and as you know there are several compilations already in existence and readily available. It sounds like a great time for you to finish what you started and make your own preferred compilation, then share it on here :) I recently discovered Ingo had put a playlist from his recordings on yt, which is of course exemplary. A good pace to (re)start your research!

This is still the best version of Show Me I've seen. It was recorded by Ingo Wennemaring at a Near Meth Experience pre-tour gig in Antwerp in 2019, and the camera is very close to the guys. It looks more like a throwback to some kind of Saturday morning studio-based chart show type TV programme. It's the best 'performance' of the song I've seen them do. The sound is also excellent.

Ha, well, challenge accepted :) I'll get on with it. I'd still be interested to hear others' recommendations though. You're right, there are compilations in existence but none are complete, AFAIK. Neither of Ingo's playlists on YouTube, for example, include 'On The Beach', no doubt because the best available version of that is not on YouTube

There have been a few attempts to compile a "best versions" playlist.
As mentioned above, Eggi's recording (Liege 22) is excellent and anything in there goes on the list.

For the rest, I went back and had a look at what people have punted in the past:

Better Reptile: Antwerp 19
Black Sail: Liege 22, Nijmegen 22
But Genevieve: Liege 22, Groningen 22
I Will Call You: Liege 22, The Hague 22, Munich 22
Instrumental 86: Liege 22, Munich 22
Kickline: Antwerp 2019 (as NME)
Show Me: Liege 22, Frankfurt 22
Don't Drive On Ice: Liege 22, Nijmegen 22
Here: Liege 22, Nijmegen 22, Brussels 2nd 22
Six Ways To Sunday: Liege 22, Brussels 1st 22
When I'm On Fire: Liege 22, Munich 22
There's A Door: Frankfurt 22
She's A Monster: take your pick from YT
Eyes of Caligula: Ulm 22
On The Beach: take your pick from YT

Sources: thread thread thread and the "Sisters Neu" compilation of m4a's that I downloaded but can't find a thread for any more

Aren't they available in the sharing section? That's the place to look, and if they're down you can ask in the 'Any requests' thread for a re-up :)

Leeds O2 Academy 2020 version of "But Genevieve" is definitive for me because it came nicely off the back of what is now the regular intro music: back then, 2 days before the Zombie Apocalypse, we were half-trusting Raveys assertion that Genevieve was being recorded & released imminently & when they opened with it it seemed even more likely. and yeah, the NME Show Me is the best version of that song. its so fresh Vons not has a chnce to forget the words yet
in fact all 4 new songs from that gig are prolly da bestest, especially Kiickline, as all the other times they played it, it was at a pitch that only fucktards & space-mice could hear. otherwise, use da big thing between your ears (no. not your nose) & work it out for yourself. ;D
