Sugar and water anyone

Mrs T and I were having a discussion, as you do, about those gravity defying mohicans so popular during the late 70s. She reckons they used sugar and water to keep it up (ooerr missus!). Can anyone confirm this?

I confirm. And also i help some friends doing it with soap. But sugar and water is the best to do it. When me was lil mama use to make me curls and to fix it use sugar and water. And it really works.
So, as usually women have right in what they say. Believe in women all the time, specially in your wife.

What a bummer! Yes dear. TAKE the credit card. No, you DON'T have to buy me something just to make yourself feel less guilty this time.

you could/would use suger and water for a punk-style mohican, but i used s**t loads of backcombing and huge cans of wella "shock waves" hard rock hairspray for that specimen/sputnik look ;)

as far back as I can recall, original Punk Rockers used vaseline with a mate holding a hoover above their head... Honest!

I concur with QB on the "Hard Rock" hairspray - I used to use it myself to achieve the "Simon Gallup" (Cure Bass Player look)!

Hard Rock also used to smell fantastic - I remember a few nights when I would follow my friend Sarah around various clubs because of it. She having used it to ahcieve a "Siouxie" look!

Ahhhh...the smell of Hard Rock in the evenings...takes me back!

However I should like to point out that Bristows used to cost half the price, worked just as well & was marginally less flammable, which was a point in its favour for those of us who went in for the silly tendrilly over the face type 'do' & also smoked...

...leading to the short-lived & embarrassing craze for poncey cig holders (holds source of ignition further from dodgy barnet, ideally with cocktail sobranie or Dorchester Menthol) down the Barrel Organ in Birmingham circa '86...

A bit of backcombing and half a can of Insette superstrength was as hairraising as I ever managed. That backcombing didn't half numb you skull! Or was I doing it wrong?

@Carrie. Sobranie Cocktails. Some things will NEVER go out of fashion!

Blimmin Sobranie's...cost me a frikkin fortune as I would only smoke the pink ones...to match my hair.

Saying that I used to nip into the darker recesses of the club or bogs to spark up me trusty Embassy Filters... I did try colouring em in once but they tasted funny ;)

Oh botheration...what I meant to say was, sugar and egg whites worked a treat...and if you had any left you could whip up a lovely merangue (i reckon there's an 'i' going on in there somewhere...but fecked if I know exactly where)
