Pedantic wanktrap really, but wasn't Alice in '82???

Anyway, I actually like '93, it's more mechanical n meaner sounding, like there's something genuinely sinister lurking underneath.

I use to really like alice... but it really depends what kinda mood im in, as to which version I want to hear.. Alice 82 has more oomph, but 93 has more atmosphere.

i used to love alice 82, but it's a bit overplayed now.

i hated alice 93 when i first heard it - i thought it sounded like the doktor was recorded in a barn... :( but the more i listen to it now the more i like it - apart from too much reverb on teh dok, it sounds more representative of the band as they are now, and as such i think provides a direct comparison with the sisters sound then & now - the 82 version was a goth song, the 93 version is the sound of an industrial groove machine at work :)

Mmm.I do like both but I think '82 is just in front for me.
I'm quite attached to it for sentimental reasons...having one of the grooviest Summers so far blah blah  but I won't bore anyone with my reminisces of my days of yore

I vote for Brighton 84 version (as to be found on Black October).

Doktor Avalanche really kicks ass in that one.

I hope I made no mistakes now with any spelling or date mix up or something. I am rather ... :notworthy:

I voted for both :von:
To be true I love all (if my memory serves me well, or at least almost all) versions of this song I have heard. Honestly. I can't say it about all Sisters songs.

I rank "Alice" as the best song ever written, all categories, and I prefer the 1993 version. Tractor-bass rules.

I have spoken.

Pre 1993 - Alice 82 - live or otherwise
Post 1993 - Alice 93 - for reason see above :-)

I find it hard to choose, though I think the production wins out in the end for
93. Though the 82 version- if I recall correctly, is notable for starting with
"Alice stays pressed" instead of "She stays pressed", which is the official
version given in Postcards From Above The Chemist, and sung live for a
hell of a lot of years.

Trainspotting, I know.

Acutally, to be even sadder, in favour of 82 is of course the medium i.e vinyl and run out groove messages.

And for the record, discussed elsewhere, Body Electric 84 is the definitive
version IMHO of that song.

Discussed elsewhere? Where, pray tell?

On this very forum - can't be bothered hunting the thread down at the momment, but the various re-recordings have been discussed in the past.

You mean I've got to hunt it down myself? Oh well. At least you replied. My poll's not going too well. D'ya reckon the Body And Soul version's a bit too hard to find, or does everyone else have more interesting things to do with their Saturday nights?

They probably do have better things to do, but ah well.

Oh, you might get lucky, it's the sort of thing that will bother me until I find it.
