Just looked through an old box of my cassettes. Remember those things, all that tape? This is what I found:

The Smiths Meat is Murder
The Cure Standing on a Beach
Balaam & the Angel The Greatest Story Ever Told
General Public Hand to Mouth
Midnight Oil Diesal and Dust

Now that's Elderly Bastard Groovy!

Strawberry switchblade
Wonderstuff (never loved elvis)

LOADS of cure stuff oh, and First and last and always on one of those old chrome dioxide thingy tapes.

It amazes how bands I liked way back when stand the test of time, and most of them were British...that was a wonderful era for music, and I was lucky enough to live in an area that played what we called British New Wave on the radio. When I moved from Arizona....Boo! The east coast music didn't include the Brit wave! Now that truly sucked.

Got Combat Rock on right now...It rocks like a son of bitch! Now I know why when it turned 1990 I just never took that step ... I'm still in the '80's.

This is the 80s isn't it? It's certainly everywhere you look now. They've even opened an 80s pub in York, apparently. And have you seen the price of Simple Minds' greatest hits! Their Early Gold was very reasonably priced and probably much better.

weren't Dexy's a bit of 80s irony/wit that I missed? they sounded like a bunch of chancers to me. Come On Eileen is good for one thing.... a porn movie title, the song gets switched off anytime it pops on Chateau B'last's wireless.

Well, let's just say that if I want white, no-talent, el cheapo-reggae, I'd rather put on a UB40 record. Classics? So is Joyce's "Ulysses". Enjoyed that one?

Wasn't it A Flock Of Seagulls who did 'Wishing'? What a choon, whoever it was.

I feel compelled to dive off into the garage and dig out some very bizarre old tapes, but it's too late and far too cold in there right now. However, for a fact I know that I have the Balaam tape. Probably sat next to something by Claytown Troupe, or even worse, The m*****n. Sorry, I was young.

Have to admit to being a big fan of that one. Never went as far as buying a pair of dungarees though. While I'm at it, I guess Tears For Fears and that mob who did the 'why are you up there you say/ why are you down there I say' song will cost me a few Hail Maries.

I could never get this adoration for the brit new wave thing so many people seem to have, it was so bad it hurts

Ultravox - Rage in Eden. Now that's a bloody brilliant album IMO. It still sounds great now.

I wouldn't say i despise them, but i couldn't stand any of them, especially The Clash. Should i stay or should i go? For f**k sake, just go already and shut up about it, that's all i could think everytime i heard that song. I liked London Calling though.
