Billy Idol and Steve Stephens

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Don't worry your pretty little heads about it. Above all else, remember this: You don't have to stay forever. I will understand.

Steve Stephens? I thought it was Tony James!
I feel a bit stupid now...

To me and my mates, Billy Idol is a god. it's sad that he's kinda semi-retired these days... he did tour the states about a year ago, though. So maybe he'll play in Europe soon?

granted, they didnt look all that dissimilar from a distance, at the time, but yer man in the photo is playing a rickenbacker bass so it must be tj ;)

steve would have been playing a guitar rather than a bass, probably with windmill arms a la that chap from the who, too

That is a picture of Generation X, Billy Idol and Steve Stevens didnt know each other at that point. Idol is wanting to record a new album though, don't know when that will happen.

Billy Idol.... never quite did it for me musically (Gen X pretty good though)...

TJ...... ooohhhh... now then, clever bloke that one, from the Malcolm Mclaren school and no mistake.

Now then, Steve Stevens, whos not in that picture i feel deserves a mention as he is an awsome guitar player. Had a sabbatical away from Mr Idol, and played for Vince Neal (ok...ok.... bit of an LA Sunset strip glam fan....) and showed some astonishing chops.

@ Paddy, Steve plays awesomely on the Top Gun Sound track. He was back on tour with Billy this past year, and even featured..Billy Idol with Steve Stevens or something like that was the billing. He's one on my favorites!

Sigh...I couldn't go...no money. $40 a ticket so the nite would have run over $100 for me. someone at another board I visit Did see them. She said it was wonderful, and Actually met Billy. She posted her pic with him. He looked Fab!!!

You ought to give Billy another listen. I have tons of him in my cassette box! And I hope he does release some new stuff. His snarling lip has been gone far too long.

Time was when I really believed Generation X were going to be the new Who. How wrong was I?
To this day I have not forgiven Martin Rushent (at that time a very hot talent) for his production on the first album, it was tinny and clipped, they deserved a whole lot better.

For Paddy: Try these out, they are some of my personal favorites.

From self titled Billy Idol - Love Calling

From Rebel Yell - Eyes Without a Face, Blue Highway, Flesh for Fantasy

From Whiplash Smile - Don't Need A Gun, To Be A Lover

These are not the fancy hits he had on radio. They're actually better than those.

enjoy!

I mean they're not White Wedding or Rebel Yell, which where I grew up got A LOT more radio play. And I really don't remember hearing Eyes Without a Face on the radio, but I could be wrong. It was 20 years ago mind you and I am Elderly Bastard Groovey. ;)

I find myself a bit busy for a few weeks then find out I'm missing out on THIS!!!

Blimmin Mr Broad rocked my world, floated my boat blah blah blah for many a long night.

Tippermost toppermost eye candy but crap at miming and lyp sync-ing! Top of the Pops-a-go-go

He looked good as Cousin Kevin but was a bit stumbly and fluffed a few of cues.

But nope, wouldn't kick him out of the futon
Five cups of coffee just to be myself...when I'd rather be somebody else
