I downloaded an mp3 of this song the other day which claims to be the "Morphine Mix". Now it sounds (to me) indistinguishable from the version I already had (on a dodgy tape a mate of mine did for me years ago).

Now I know that "Good Things" exists as a demo version and a radio session version, but I don't know which this is; does anyone else know?

Hooray! I love this song

The version I have (which I got from SoulSeek, I think) is labelled as being from a Peel session in '82. I'm downloading yours now (no broadband for me, so it'll be a short while ) and will report back if it sounds different.

This version is a bit different to whatever the mp3 I have is. Somewhat slower and less frantic. However, the same lyrics and soforth. My mp3 has a slightly unhinged scream at the end, whereas this does not.

Great track too. Used to have it on a tape with an excellent version of Adronocrome. It was one of those tapes that you have for years and even when it chews up in the recorder your there dissecting it and puttin the tape back together using the finest of cellotape cuts. It had Jolene, a really raw Black Planet and is it Poison Door what was written by Marx? I dunno.

That was in the days when we thought they wouldn't invent anything after cassette decks with Dolby B and BetaMax/VCRs.

jensenclone's superb 4 x cd bnonanza has all those early demo tracks that you would have lost... you really need to grab a copy when it comes around again on the weeding thread

But why wasn't Good Things ever put out as a single? Certainly a better choice than either Walk Away or Boy & Soul?

Euh actually, I thought they were planning to reease it, but someone stole the demo version and spread it around as a bootleg, so Andrew didn't want to release it anymore?anyone?

Interesting theory, and not without its merits, but perhaps if this were the case, then Good Things might have ended up on one of the compilations? After all, Damage Done, Watch and Home Of The Hitmen were only on SGWBM as a "bootleg-spoiler", no?

Well, I'm not sure about this theory - they never made any money from Damage Done, and I don't think their motive for putting it on SGWBM was spoiling bootleg sales. I think the motives were 'a lot of people seem to want this for some reason, so why not give it to them, it can only help sales for completists'.

I don't think this applies in the same way to Good Things. Even assuming the spoiling idea, I think there would be no point spoiling bootleg trade from Good Things since, AFAIK the Sisters have never made any money from it anyway, and have nothing out in competition with it...It would have looked odd on SGWBM.

Though I still agree, it's a good song, and it would be nice to hear a clean version someday!

Oh, yeah, I hadn't thought of it like that

I remember getting a mail out from M.R. after Floodland came out claiming that certains sought after songs would appear as future b-sides to "stop the bootleggers". This happened with Long train and Emma but then I guess the band morphed somewhat...? Maybe it'll still appear as a b-side in the future..but I'm not holding my breath for that or any future release

AFAIK the morphine mix turned up on "the collection" sometime last year. From what i can workout , the guy who put together the collection played around with goodthings to make the morphine mix. It's just slightly higher in tempo.

Also, i remember reading/ hearing Von describe why Goodthings was never realeased, so there is an answer out there if someone finds it before me

Good Things is actually one of my favorite Sisters songs. I've owned two different copies of the 1982 Peel Sessions, one on vinyl that I picked up back in the 80s, and a CD Bootleg I picked up about 6 years ago called Radioland. Both are extremely mediocre in sound quality (mediocre is probably being generous). This is not the same version I have. Not just the sound quality, but the recordings are markedly different. For one, the version from the '82 Peel Sessions is played noticably faster. Your copy is a bit slower mix, but astoundingly better sound quality.

I've tons of versions of this, the slower mix (on Hard Reign, etc) is deffo the better. But someone said live versions? Where? When?

I only have one copy of it live from 05-09-81 - Stafford Futurama Festival Bingley Hall and 3 versions on the Kenny Giles boot. One of those is live. Plus the Peel Session of course.

I smell an egg/Grand Mother interface.
