tsom vocal duties etc.
When Marx & Eldritch started the band in 1980, it appears like they had no clue about what "they were good at". To me it seems foolish to let Eldritch be the drummer and Marx the vocalist. Didn't Eldritch know that he was a superb vocalist when they started? (he's much much better than Marx). I guess they figured that out after a while.
We are coming down but we will never, never land

Poison Door is Eldritch, though I would concede the vocals on RSD are not too shoddy.ryan_w_0000 wrote:hey....it was all punk themdays- nobody needed to know an instrument back then- its was just..punk...noise ra ra ra...

Hehe, Eldritch is a superb vocalist... I love the tone of Von's voice, its resonance, and the feeling he can (sometimes) put into it. But if we factor in minor details like 'ability to hold a note' or even 'ability to hit the right note in the first place', he's surely not a superb vocalist by any stretch of the imagination?

OUCH. Yeah, I remember literally cringing during a live rendition of "Comfortably Numb." Cat yowling in agony, anyone?MrChris wrote:...But if we factor in minor details like 'ability to hold a note' or even 'ability to hit the right note in the first place', he's surely not a superb vocalist by any stretch of the imagination?

From some interview around the time of Temple 92:
(may have posted this before come to think of it..)
"...Tone deaf. I still am. Even today, if you listen, I've got a way of implying notes rather than singing them. And if it's not in A, I can't sing it anyway. The musicologists among you will notice how many of our songs are in A. It's quite a lot. It is remarkable how much one can make of one's limitations. That's all I've done."

Eldritch as a singer is much, much better when he actually 'sings' instead of shouting. Unfortunately, he's prone to doing too much of the latter during live performances.SINsister wrote:OUCH. To quote the Silver Jews, though.. "all my favourite singers couldn't sing".. and heck, you should listen to some of *my* stuff some time.
