Very partial to the Ravenswood Zinfandel myself, a good Chablis, and
any halfway decent port. Taylors 10 year old tawny is very nice indeed.

The '82 is legendary. Run tired of the Yquem, have you?

Apparently the '82 is only just starting to "blossom". So open the '85, or sell it.

i agree mugabe. the '82 is, quite rightly, revered. but i fear that to purchase a third case might appear somewhat vulgar. as for the chateau d'yquem, i'm simply just not a white wine man. sorry.

i recommend '86 - slightly more friendly on the wallet and therefore often overlooked. lovely for coq-au-vin and the right company

Personally I like Jacobs Creek Chardonnay.

It's cheap (3.89 from Tesco) and cheerful! Don't get the Semillion Chardonnay which is vinegar.

Actually, is this a Red Wine thread? Can't stand the stuff. It all tastes like soap to me.

I don't generally do a lot of wine and I will never pay more than a fiver a bottle.

nothing. i tried to drink it out of the bottle last week but teh fizz went up my nose.

The Aussie Chards are really good, I'm partial to Lindeman's.

And to me red wine should only be taken with rare beef, or a nice pasta. Otherwise...it just gives me a nasty headache.

Morrisson's Rioja goes down a treat with Mrs T's mafia-style meatballs. Apart from that, any Australian cabernet sauvignon for c 5 quid will do. I can't drink French anymore. Tastes like water compared to the southern hemisphere offerings.

Only have French, nice Bordeaux or Cotes du Rhone. Pretty much stopped drinking the yellow fizzy stuff - except when in the Netherlands where they have some nice seasonal beers (Winterbok).

I just whipped up some from a Neopalitan recipe by some Baroness.....Utterly to die for! Amazing how the Italians can take a tin of tomatoes, garlic and meatballs, simmer for a bit and knock you off your ass!

Which leads on nicely to a nice iced bottle of Orvietto. There's a little known Italian down our way that does the best ever grub at wonderful prices. It really is like eating in someones living room.

Otherwise it mainly OZ whites with the odd NZ Montana thrown in just so I can do my falling over impression quicker than normal.

Don't go near the reds unless I'm past the point of no return and there's nothing else left to drink, ie the paint stripper, bleach and cleaning products have already been consumed.

Had a bottle of Banrock Station Sparkling Shiraz at New Year. Absolutely gorgeous, a bit pricey (£8ish) but it tastes of summer - and we're that kind of people aren't we.
