On my harddrive I have a version of "This corrosion" (mp3 format) which is 4 minutes and 16 sec long. Exactly which version is it? The lyrics are a bit changed, and some verses are left out. Lyrics are as follows:

I have a 1-track US Promo CD of "This Corrosion". It might be that version. I don't have it right here to check, though.

It's the 7 inch version, at least I think it is. Haven't played it for years. Other than that the only place I heard the truncated verses version was on a copy of "Now That's What I Call Music XX' or one of their ilk at the time...

Definitely the 7. I remember wincing at the cut-up lyrics, then never playing it again.
If I told them once, I told them a hundred times to put 'Spinal Tap' first and 'Puppet Show' last.

I have the 7 & 12" versions, I thought the 7" did the business, short, sharp, direct. Usually I prefer longer tracks.

I think the Floodland version of "This corrosion" is too long. The ASCOOB version is a little shorter but also a little too long. I say: 8 minutes, no more :)

Yeh, there is no perfect mix. I say take the LP version, fade the outro much earlier, and cut it down to one chorus after the first verse, leaving out the "dooo dooo doo" bit as well, should bring it to about 7, nice and direct with all the important bits still intact.

Might have a go on a wave editor later on and see what I can come up with.

It was 'The Hits Album 7'. Which was actually great, because it also contained Darklands my JAMC, and the immortal No Memory by Brum's finest, Scarlet Fantastic. I guess this is how it felt in 1987, anyway.

Incedently Q Magazine rate "This Corrosion" at #892 in their "1001 Best Songs Ever" Special Edition.
Where gothic England in the spindly shape of Andrew Eldritch met Jim Steinman, a man for whom Wagner was insufficiently bold. The earthquaking result sounded not unlike the tuneful apocalypse man had long dreamed of.
It's sandwiched in between "Would't It Be Good" by Nik Kershaw and "The Cutter" by Echo & The Bunnymen...

IMO Karst the first 3 albums should be in every decent music collection, the remasters even more so. Make your own mind up about their output from Ocean Rain onwards, they never quite set my soul afire after Porcupine. Heaven Up Here should be purchased if for nothing else than the b-side of A Promise 12" - Broke My Neck (long version), a work of genius!

actually I have done my own edit on the ASCOOB version of "This corrosion". The only thing done really is to start the fading out after Von shouting "Like a healing hand" a couple of times. That made the song 8:04 long.. I was very happy with the result

I've made my own 6:59 edit without all the nonsense in as I described above, and it's major rocking cool. Sometimes you can have too much of a good thing.
