a trade gone bad

(Disclaimer: i'm not writing this so as to warn anyone or for any "good" reason but only because since i got the idea i've been unable to shake it off, so if anything this is merely a ritual of exorcism on my part)

i had a trade with Petseri. Everything was agreed upon, and i sent my package. A couple of weeks later he tells me he received it and is soon going to send me mine (sic). Only there's a problem, he asks what should we do because he's not happy with what i sent.
When we agreed about the trade, he wanted to make sure that the gigs were good quality. But basically, the problem here is with one gig (there was 3, and one i gave him for an empty cd-r). i had told him it's made of mp3s, but doesn't have gaps. Well, i was wrong. It had gaps. i had only thought of removing them instead of having done it, and then i'd forgotten about it, so it was a long time since i had listened to it and thought it's fine (it's good quality in other regards). So he wanted compensation of some sort, judging from his question 'what should we do?'.
i was a bit angry, i had waited for his gigs for a week already and only now found out that he hadn't even sent them yet (he told me about problems with his burner, which may or may not be true, if it was true he could've told me about it earlier). So i basically told him that what's going to happen is he's going to send me the gigs he promised, and i'm sorry i was wrong about the gaps but i don't think the mistake was that bad.
Well, he eventually promises to send me "something". i wait for a few weeks and a package arrives. i was surprised cause i thought i had made him angry (i was angry :) ) and had already discarded the whole trade. But i wasn't surprised when i opened the package and found not a single of the gigs i had asked for from him, but other gigs, of varying bad quality (with gaps! (heh!), i can only supose they were useless discs for him that he had made better versions of for himself already).
So i PMmed him about it, but never got a reply. Another thing is, i got less cds than had sent him, and to "add insult to injury" the empty cd-r was brandless haha :)

i know i made a mistake. i know i didn't act perfectly, but i don't feel i did anything to deserve this from him.

Well, the only conclusion for me is that, since this was my first time to trade with an american, and let's not forget americans can demand their money back if they don't like the movie they see, i'll never have dealings with those "wonderful friends of ours from across the sea" again.

Sure, there are complications to this story (like another gig i sent him also had gaps, but i told him about it never that it didn't have gaps, and that it's not of best quality, but it's really worth having cause of setlist), and the ones to his advantage i'm sure Petseri will bring to your knowledge, if anyone cares. However, from my point of view, i've said everything relevant to the story.

Sorry to have wasted your time by making you read this rant, but it's for my own peace of mind.

regards,
dei

My own feeling ITN, is that Heartland, in my experience, has been a very generous, caring and therefore rewarding experience. I myself have received 'weeds' from Petseri free of charge, so don't judge him too harshly. As for gaps on CDs, software is available (here and now) to remove them and play sans silences. So Petseri, give ITN a break, we're all in this together.
I do hope you guys sort it out.

regards
Blast

Around half the cd's I've received in trades have been imperfect (gaps between tracks, clicks between tracks, lots of hiss, one even had the tracks in reverse order). It's amazing how many have been like this when most traders seem to have such strict rules. I didn't whine about it, I just loaded up soundforge and repaired them!

As Dan says, you just get on with it. The only two minor issues I've ever had on here was a 2:1 where I was supplying the media but never followed through due to my own forgetfulness. The burner has never complained. The other issue was a weed that never materialised. I've never complained. It happens. What comes around, comes around.

I'm only posting a response to this as spookily enough the minor issues involve the two Heartlanders featuring in this thread. It's a small world and it smells lovely! :von:

@ JB: The 2:1 is still open if you want it. No problem. I really see no reason why anyone would have complained about it still being up in the air. Let me know.

As for the initial post: I may post a response to give anothe perspective and to show that I am not avoiding the matter. However, I prefer not escalating it so that it takes away from the generally friendly, welcoming nature which HL usual has. Dominion has had its periods of rough waters; we do not need that here as well.

cheers petseri, i appreciate your discretion :)

trades often "go bad" through breakdowns in communication, crap postal services, etc. and as with all things in life it helps if the two parties concerned talk to each other

i know language can be a barrier in this kerrazy online world we all inhabit, but i do think there's nowt you cant sort out by having a chinwag :)

my own (admitted quite limited) personal experience of both yourself and of itnaklipse has been pleasant and i'm sure there was no malice involved by either party. :!:

i'm sure you can both work out your misunderstanding somehow.

I have traded with almost everyone on the weeding thread. I've gotten disks with gaps, and those of varying quality. I have sent out disks with nothing on them....just ask JB... And yes, I replaced them with ones that work. I've been late getting to the post, and so have some of the ppl sending me stuff. So what? None of that matters to me because I realize 1) we are all taking our own time to do this, and 2) and we are all spending our money on it, and 3) there is life outside weeding that takes precedence.

Overall, I have loved the weeding here because it's allowed me to acquire a nice collection of Von's gigs, that I would not otherwise been able to have!
