For non UK peeps, there is currently this big BBC "Best sitcom" thing going on, and we are doen to the last 10.

Vote away as im quite curious, and personally convinced that Fawlty Towers is the best.

Paddy.

From that list, Black Adder! :notworthy:

From the list: Porridge.

Have you noticed, it's a BBC poll, and all of the top 10 are BBC series. :innocent:
Oh and you've got the Good Life down twice. One should be Yes (Prime) Minister.

But from the ones that didn't make the list, the best UK sitcom is undoubtedly Father Ted.

It absolutely has to be Blackadder out of those, but what a crappy list.

It's all a bit twee and middle class and comfortable, no? Vicar of Dibley? My arse!

One foot in the grave? Simply not funny. One trick pony.

The only ones I'd actually watch are Blackadder, Porridge and Only Fools and Horses. The others don't do it for me.

Alternatives (IMHO) to include The Office, Phoenix Nights, Red Dwarf (up to about series five, at least) and (for old times' sake) Are you being served. Maybe a bit of Hi-de-Hi as well. It wasn't funny exactly, but I loved it when I was a kid.

Maybe all this is why I prefer stand-up, though ....

Indeed - and may I also suggest Spaced, Coupling, Black Books, Father Ted?

blackadder. but i love 'two pints of lager and a packet of crisps.'

Yes Minister. Forgot that one. Very good.

As for the "middle class" jibe, it's all very safe and cosy stuff. Epitomised by Vicar of Dibley. I tend to parcel that into my slightly skewed class view.

Perhaps bourgeouis would have been better - but I'm not sure of the spelling and until Richey comes back to tell me I can't be arsed with a spellchecker.

Bourgeois

I'm standing in for RJ!

As for "Two pints of Crisps", I wanted to hate it, but still ended up watching every episode. And laughing. :innocent:

Well, what's a spare 'u' between friends? I was close.

Two Pints ... part of the baffling BBC trend of setting shows in Runcorn. Didn't really get on with it.

But, as not previously mentioned, The Young Ones.

Self-indulgent and pretentious, but bloody funny at the same time.

I refuse to ever talk to you again until you had Red Dwarf to the list.

Then give Red Dwarf 100% of the vote.

Then some more...

And insist that Hearland be renamed Red Dwarf Heartland as a mark of respect.

Its okay....

I've already got me coat....

err... paddy, you got the list wrong!!! the beeb's top ten has yes minister which you have mysteriously replaced with the good life? some sub-concious desire for felicity kendall maybe? anyways, i refuse to vote until this miscarriage of justice is righted. at which point it becomes a three-way fight between towers, adder and minister although i'm struggling desperately to put them into any kind of order...

It's got to be Norman Stanley for me. Although I agree Fawlty Towers is a classic (coming a very close second).
I shall ignore your omission of Yes Minister and proceed regardless.

Yes Minister, Please

It would be the only remotely funny one on the list, if it were on the list.

The whole top ten is a disgrace, actually. Something to do with the original vote for the top 100 only really being advertised in the Radio Times. Their home counties demographic skew really shows through.

Fair point. I'd rather see the Dwarf in the top 10 than most of this c rap.

But then, I'd rather see the Brittas Empire than the Vicar of Dibley.

Off to bang my head against a wall.
