How broad is your band

Does exactly what it says on the tin. Some of the nonsense contained herein may be very loosely related to The Sisters of Mercy, but I wouldn't bet your PayPal account on it. In keeping with the internet's general theme nothing written here should be taken as Gospel: over three quarters of it is utter gibberish, and most of the forum's denizens haven't spoken to another human being face-to-face for decades. Don't worry your pretty little heads about it. Above all else, remember this: You don't have to stay forever. I will understand.

The relentless onslaught of tecnology showing no sign of abating has necessitated an investment in broadband.

I don't need the computer at home much, but when I do the link needs to be fast and not prone to crashing. So I'm looking for something which is more pay as you go, and good quality.

Any suggestions (for the uk).

It's a cable modem, BeeP. It's lightning-fast, compared to dial-up. I'll never go back! :notworthy: :von:

Lots of ISP's are running various speed broadbands and different prices (Tiscali and NTL for eg). I've been using Virgin for about 14 months now, and apart from a brief period (few weeks) last year have not had any problems with them. It costs £24.99 which seems to be going rate for top speed broadband. Never heard of pay as you go broadband though. Hope this helps and good luck. 8)

BeeP - having a broadband internet connection is kind of the same thing as having cable TV. Digital vs. analog...

Heh - nope. Just like having cable TV replaces the need for a TV antenna and gives you far more channels, the broadband cable (and the signal it contains) replaces the dial-up phone line connection, giving you much faster internet access.

Yeah. I missed 'em on Popmart. Nothing could top ZooTV for me though.

Hmmm...I get broadband through my cable company (Comcast in Jersey) for $40 per month (in addition to my cable tv charges). I think you also have to buy the modem itself from the cable company, which is a one-time charge, and then you own it. You might just want to sign up for it for a three-month trial period (deals usually last that long), and see if it's worth it, then cancel if you decide it's not worth the extra expense. Of course, if you do cancel it, you'll then be stuck with a physical cable modem you'll probably never use again. But sometimes, companies will throw in the modem free as an incentive to get you to sign up....

Shop around.
