Well, I came here in hope to here from you international people about what's going on in France about the Islam scarf and I stumbled over a post by Black Planet about GRAMMAR POLICY that is LOCKED...

LOCKED?!

Grammar policy?

Well, certainly you don't want non natives here f**king around your language and stuff... Sorry!
Guess I've come to the wrong place... again! Though for the first time in more than one, two months... But I guess things are worse than ever around here.

Sorry, I simply cannot cope with it. Keep on weeding. I'm not interested.

Hey, calm down.

It's the tail-end of a grammar war perpetrated by a couple of tedious, pedantic types who revelled in correcting every slip of the keyboard.

That prompted an angry reaction from a few others and it all got a bit out of hand.

As far as I can see there's no grammar policy, just a few minor linguistic scuffles. Come join in .... ignore the yawnsome minority.

As for the Islamic scarves, I back the French government. I'd go further and remove all religious symbols from schools. Faith is matter for a private individual and should not be pushed into the public sector.

Do what you like in your homes and your places of worship ... but let's keep it out of the public eye.

**Official Word**

THERE IS NO GRAMMAR POLICY

@Dead Inside, i think you are overreacting my friend. To suggest some kind of nationalistic prejudice with regard to grammar on HL ? Please see above!

Paddy.

in furtherance to pad's comment, the topic was then locked to prevent people getting more and more upset by keeping the "discussion" going.

as has been said, it was a quasi-joke that was taken too far and too seriously by all involved. and now its over.

re: france - well, we always knew the french (as a nation) were rightwing nationalists at heart ;) :o

An Asian guy I used to work with moved to Paris after working there for a bit because he said he found the French to be the least racist nation he had come across. I found this very hard to believe after having spent some time in St Etienne myself during the mid 80s around the time Le Pen first came to prominence. I often wonder whether he's reassessed his views now his French will have improved enough for him to know when he's being insulted.

So are you saying if you were a Sikh, and you had long hair and a turban because of your religion, you would tell them they would have to get rid of their turban and cut their hair if you want to go to school. It happend to my brother years ago but he told his headmaster to "get f***ed you facist, ignorant tosser", and no he did not get expelled or let the headmaster have his way.

My expirence was the turban got people interested in my religion rather than frighten them off. If people wanted to ask me questions I was happy to answer them but I did not preach!!.

My point is the turban signifies the Sikh identity, and if you take that away you are taking that identity away from them. What really is the problem with the islamic headscarf?, I thought you were to judge and treat people by their heart and not appearance!!

I meant it was needed at the top of the page to be in a row with all my other little grammar threads. And now that I've replied I f*cked it up. Doh!
