Hi. Maybe this has been discussed before... Yesterday I watched Guns N' Roses music video "You could be mine". (The one based on the Terminator 2 movie). I'm pretty sure the drummer Matt Sorum wore a Sisters t-shirt. It just flashed by, but I think i saw the word "Sisters" with the typical font, and a date beneath. Can someone confirm or deny this?

It was indeed a Sisters shirt with "SISTERS: 16.2.81" on it. These were available at the 10th aniversary gigs in Leeds.

On a side note, in the Mish video for Beyond the Pale you can see a glimpse of Duff McKeegan.

You'd need a pretty good reason / excuse for that, PIB. Just passing in the background I hope.

...and back to G'N'R - in 92 (at Maine Rd), during the ridiculous wait for the singer to turn up, Vision Thing and Neverland blasted out of the PA. Vision Thing is fair enough, but I was seriously impressed that someone (we assume Sorum) wanted Neverland on. Predictably, the Guns gig didn't touch those two tracks. An old Guns boot vid from 91 features Ribbons and VT during the break - accompanied by white-trash rednecks getting their baps out. Finally, and very spuriously, GNR sometimes came on to Leonard Cohen's masterpiece 'Everybody Knows'. Cool.

obviously axl has a cool friend who gave him a few pointers on how to turn their shambling redneck beer-and-baps-fest into something that the more discerning punter might approve of ;)

Quite so. Mr Sorum obviously. Discerning punters like ourselves would avert our gaze from the bap-fest (nicely put) in shame, eh Quiffy?

Hey Corpy, I 'used' to think they were ace, til they went all prog on us (that Maine Rd gig was wierd - go see Hawkwind if you want ten minute solos - although obviously Hawkwind do it better). They were 'pretty' good at the Leeds Festival in 2002. I file them under Oasis - untouchable first album, that really screws you when you try to write the second. Should have asked The Stone Roses how they managed it, I suppose.

But yeah, I've never been to the Phono (dodgy goff night ahoy) and NOT heard, or danced my ass off to, Paradise City.

It's kind of funny that a professional drummer likes a band that uses a drum machine :)

Von should hire Sorum, and get rid of Dr. Avalanche. But then he would need someone to play the bass as well. Too expensive for Von!

Reading Festival

the G&R guy was supposed to be a huge sisters fan. Wasn't he from / educated in the Leeds area. See also, knocking on heavens door tribute :P

I remember hearing it played at the last WendyHouse. Corpy was there btw, :notworthy: and a few of the usual suspects...

Tha's right Scardy... :P

But yeah Dave, I totally agree. As soon as they got all ballady and too up their own arse even for rawk stars, it all went to hell. I still remember watching the 'November Rain' video and being completely awestruck, though.

For the November Rain vid, I heard somewhere that they had the church outside which Slash does his solo specially moved to the location. At a very high cost

IMO
Guns 'n' Roses - second division Aerosmith tribute fronted by a man who wines rather than sings. GNER make a better sound.

PIB - re. the mussion, that's okay then. You're off the hook. Matt Sorum was from California, or at least that's where The Cult found him. I think. Or Sweden. Can't imagine him spending any time in Leeds, but what would I know?

Corpy - oh lordy, the 'November Rain' vid. Pompous as the day is long, yet still ridiculously cool-as-f*ck. I think that's why I enjoyed them at the Leeds Festival, they played mainly Appetite stuff, and only occasionally started fickung around - even when they did, the solo was the Star Wars theme tune - ace!

Red - been in the knife drawer again mate? Did you get me PM about that cover?

I'm a big gnr fan, and i always wondered what the sisters t-shirt was that matt sorum wore. (This was in my pre sisters of mercy days).

I wouldnt be surprised to hear that axl may like the sisters of mercy, axl has always liked a broad range of music. People have the wrong impression about him, he is actually a very intelligent guy. He has many personal problems and tends to fly off the handle, it is a pity he forced almost every single original member out of gnr.

Yeah matt sorum is from california. The only gnr member with british connections is slash - from stoke on trent.
