I always liked the Cure but I never both an album and never really got into them.
Now I was thinking of getting me one but I really have No clue wish I should try.
Can someone please give some advice?

I’ll be forever grateful

Go 'Pornography' Christophe - you can't go wrong - IF you like your music dark and brooding. My fav. by far.

Pornography. Really Really good faux Joy Division... Did I say how GOOD it was? It's REALLY GOOD!

Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me. Double album, poppy in places dark in others. Undervalued by fans I think. It;s good!

And who could forget the classic - The Best of the Cure

Seriously, Staring at the Sea - The Singles is probably a better compilation than any of the latter ones.

Yeah - I agree Staring at the sea is a very good starting point. Also Disintegration is a bit of a gem as well.

:!: Cure "in Concert" which is a mid-eighties compilation of live tracks (from 2,3 different concerts but songs really blend in with each other) (+A Forest live version on this record kills the studio version !!!)

The real Holy Trinity is Seventeen Seconds (stark, grey, minimalist post-punk), Faith (brooding miserabalia) and Pornography (unprecedented mayhem and savagery). All the other LPs are so completely different from each other that we're really into best-of territory, otherwise you risk buying something you'll hate.

As mh , but switch Disintergration for Faith ( the main reason for buying Faith is "Primary") and you wont go far wrong.............

Did you hear those pair on the Brits murder the Lovecats?

Thankfully I didn't, but I also think it's The Cures worst song.

Depends on what kind of stuff you like I guess. What tracks have you heard and like?

Disintegration is always a good starting point I think - it leaves some breadth to go in several directions with the band's sounds, but is also seen as "definitive" by a lot of people....

[shameless promotion]

btw, if you like the cure check out the best forum on the web for them:

A quick Cure review from where I sit -

Three Imaginary Boys - good, very much of its time tho
17 Seconds - Bleak, Bleak, Bleak!
Faith - very good, not so bleak still quite down tho
Porno - noise in the extreme, dank more than bleak, the whole thing is cathartic

<skipped a few years>

Disintigration - class, quality
Wish - worth it for the final track - End. A stunning piece of music and words.

<skips more years>

Bloodflowers - very good indeed

Trilogy - Porno, Disint, B Flowers + - indispensable

all of the above is IMO, obviously.

I have never been The Cure fan but I love Seventeen Seconds :von:
And also what Bob did in The Banshees 8)

Robert Smith's guitar playing with The Banshees is exemplary, Nocturne proves this, no matter what Ms. Siouxsie or Mr. Severin says.

(they bad mouthed him after he went back to Lol Tolhurst, at that point, Robert and Lol were The Cure)

WTF? Bloodflowers is one of their BEST albums to date
All the tracks sounded the same. Boring acoustic melodys that could have been pulled off by a bunch of angst ridden teens. In my opinion, a marketing ploy to get to todays generation of pathetic people and to leave us pornography and faith fans in the dark..

am i entitled to an opinion? good :von:

He played geetar occasionally for em!

Bloodflowers is NOT The Cure, someone must have nicked em for a while. It's shocking, but better than Wild mood swings WTF was that?

Disingeration is by far the best cure album, followed by wish, Head on the door, Kiss me, kiss me, kiss me, faith................damn it they're all good apart from the most recent two!
