Prague '98

THE place for your Sisters-related comments, questions and snippets of Sisters information. For those who do not know, The Sisters of Mercy are a rock'n'roll band. And a pop band. And an industrial groove machine. Or so they say. They make records. Lots of records, apparently. But not in your galaxy. They play concerts. Lots of concerts, actually. But you still cannot see them. So what's it all about, Alfie? This is one of the few tightly-moderated forums on Heartland, so please keep on-topic. All off-topic posts will either be moved or deleted. Chairman Bux is the editor and the editor's decision is final. Danke.

Just got a disc to remaster of this '98 gig which was a near riot. Short setlist probalby because of the problems with the promotor. The disc has 'Jolene' added to it from a different recording. The tape has a few 'flangers' - particulary at the start of each track. I know Mr. Dorf did a tape (+ soundcheck) and this is *not* it I'm pretty sure. Anybody can confirm this before I salvage this one?

Quarter past five. Sorry, what?

In case you need to know, Jolene may be from the Berlin gig of that tour. Are you sure, though, that this is not the same recording as Dorf's? I have yet to hear of one without the squeaks.

Martin,

This is indeed one that you did for our Estonian friend. Is this one that you got from Dorf - I was expecting the soundcheck to be included with it. Not started the salavage job yet. Thanks for all the info people. I'll have see what it turns out as.

I have plenty of Estonian friends. :D

No further detailsm really. I have yet to have a successful transaction with Dorf. First, before I knew of his selling off the 1998 gigs, he said "send me a copy of X and I will see what I can do". Yeah, right. :urff: The second time was on eBay when he has yet another username (he has used a few). I found out that it was hm after the auction. He flaked out then as well. I was just as glad.

As for the copy of the gigs which I have, I assumed that it was from Dotf originally. The maga-collectors who have soundchecks from the tour all seem to have problems with that gig. If you can ever find a better quality one, I certain would be interested; I attended that gig.

Have been to that gig, but don't remember if they played JOLENE.
It was the strangest TSOM gig ever (from all I have seen)- the hall and the sound was crap, and the audience - lots of people in suits, ties and - obviously - sandals and flip-flops!!!! But we had fun anyway... Seems like ages ago!

Right. I haven't actually started the whole operation yet. There is quite a few locals talking around the bootlegger - so I presumed he was Czech. PiB indicators do seem somewhat familiar - except for no mention of the audio flanging. But that might have been the tape of origin.

what's flanging? i just threw mine in the player again. sounds erm.. okay, slightly distorted at top end. nothing at all special :?

someone whistles loudly at around 10 & 13 seconds into the intro and there are two whistles seconds before he say's "this is about..." intro for on the wire. and listen for (cough) thankyou at the very start of the rather protracted intro to flood. if that helps

the soundcheck sounds okay to me, well, for a soundcheck anyway. better than the gig recording
