After my delve into my record collection last week, just wondering what peeps fave obscure bands are, I mean stuff that just just fit in with the normal dry ice, dark shades and doom
here's some of mine
Stump (tupperware stripper is a classic)
Berlinda Carlisle
Dawn After Dark
Aqua
Anti Nowhere League (not the punk band, but the band that did 'Perfect Crime' never did find anything more, shame)
Fiona Apple (mad as a bag of badgers, but yes I still would)
oh and my Paul Mckenna - Sleep like a log CD, doesn't do what it says it does but it's boring as feck and sends me off, that and a couple bottles of wine.

Roy Harper (don't be confused by the folky, hippy looks, this bloke was angry and a brilliant lyricist)
Todd Rundgren (see above sans the angry bit)
Head Of David (awesome live, never transferred to vinyl)
Entombed (the acceptable voice of Scandinavian Death Metal)
Shriekback (until Dave Allen, ex Gang Of 4 split)
Onna Stump tip six always had a liking for Charlton Heston and its b-side Angst Forecast

I recall 80s drone masters supreme Loop coming on way too late at a Glasgow Tech gig, tuning up for about 15 mins, saying they weren't happy with the sound mix and that they'd be back later. I was somewhat inebriated by this stage, so wandered off into the night.sisxbeforedawn wrote:I've got Eternal the singles 1988 collision is still a great song.Red_Kola wrote: Loop (never used to be obscure but no fekker heard of them these days)
Only own Fade Out, Collision and Thief Of Fire are class.

it could have been worse, I saw Jesus and Mary Chain walk on stage, feedback for about 10 minutes then walk off claiming the set was completed!!! riot then ensued not that I endorse violence, but they had the cheek to call that a gig???!!!Red Sunsets wrote:I recall 80s drone masters supreme Loop coming on way too late at a Glasgow Tech gig, tuning up for about 15 mins, saying they weren't happy with the sound mix and that they'd be back later. Along with another Heartlander who frequents these shores occassionally, I'm a big David Sylvian fan. Japan made me curious but his solo stuff is out of this world. The man's a genius.
Japan 1977 demos bootleg - Punk/glam rock meets disco/funk on speed. I defy anyone to be able to last more than three tracks in a row. But someone, somewhere saw a glimmer of hope. And the boy done good, as they say.

I'm not sure the venue owners called it ART when the seats went flying out the windows. Although they did sell a cheap'ish pint of guinnessRed Sunsets wrote:That was 'art' six

You realise that was the night they came back on and did an acoustic set. A LOOP ACOUSTIC SET. It worked, though f**k knows how...Red Sunsets wrote: I recall 80s drone masters supreme Loop coming on way too late at a Glasgow Tech gig, tuning up for about 15 mins, saying they weren't happy with the sound mix and that they'd be back later. I had high hopes for Siobahn Doherty. The first Sugababes LP is actually OK and her first single was in the same vein. Record company gave up on her alas. She is a babe.snubnoseuk wrote:Dishwalla - check 'em they're really good.

Overload should have been written by Eldritch. Same train/fate metaphor going on...

But then at least I'm not admitting to having seen Kiss live ...

Run For Cover on that album is a great song, quite depressing actually!Red_Kola wrote:The first Sugababes LP is actually OK

I remember them...mid to late '90s? Without looking it up, I recall that they only had one big song (air-play-wise). How many albums did they make?Black Shuck wrote: Strangelove
