Has anyone noticed the remarkable similarity between 'Dust Boat' by James Ray and the Performance (Merciful Release 1989) and 'Fascist Dictator' by The Cortinas (Step Forward 1977)?

I wonder if by any chance they are related?

You should be able to find it on Soulseek. Try and get the whole John Peel session as well - it's a classic.

The similarity betwen the two is in the 'riff' part.

What is James Ray doing now? I recall a post around here in which someone said he and Andy don't talk much these days....

You know, I don't live in the UK, although I did for a while. But that was then....

On the local front here, I once went into a record store hoping to get something by James Ray.

So I asked the dude behind the counter. I also asked for the Sisterhood album, describing it as "white rap".

OMG... you should have seen the looks I got from behind the counter and from the urban hepcats flippin' through the CDs in the shop.

They obviously thought I was talking about "James Wray" (you know the guy) and "white rap" of the supremacist style. Uh, not quite!

There was another James Ray song (Fuel). Its refrain borrows heavily from a disco song which I can't remember.
Maybe SINsiter can help with IDing the disco song in question. It had female vocals and went "daaaa, dah dah. Daah, DUT daaaah."

James Ray is an author too.

Here is my copy of the Psychodalek book, with its spine getting cracked by my scanner:

Here is a nice James Ray page I found.

Here is nother in Japanese

Here is Jo Spackman's old page

Here is the first hit for a GIS of "James Ray."

Harold Shipman. Nice!

They've found his suicide note, you know... It said "I can't go on. I've run out of patience."
