I was listning to the Reptile house EP for the 734th time today, and during the 3-minute build-up to the lyrics on 'Kiss the Carpet;, it ocurred to me- does 'Carpet' mean a particular, furry part of the female anatomy? Now I've got the idea in my head, I am more and more convinced that I am right.
Or did you all already know this? is it old news?
and what on earth does 'climbing the curtain' refer to?

my life long thoughts on kiss. no doubt completely wrong
red eys and dust are drugs references, but maybe also a prostitute (i went bust? )
maybe being a naive young goth i used to think the curtains refered to at least an underskirt, or ideally (for me) one of those tie-dyed full length frilly skirts the girls used to (maybe still do? ) wore. well that's what i thought.
and finally the slight feeling of guilt, self loathing afterwards. could never quite decide.

it's about being strung out, wired and utterly f*cked in a hallucinatory stupor, a la "fear & loathing in las vegas" or "naked lunch", isn't it?

I think so.
I always read it as a heroin song for some reason

I always thought it was a mishearing of a line from the Velvet's Some Kinda Love: "let us now kiss the culprit"
So Von just wrote a song about what happened after.

I am just too literal minded...but to me it's just plain old post anything regret, whether booze or whatever...and who can honestly say they have never dragged themself off the floor by use of the curtains. I know I have.

All of the above sound perfectly reasonable and just as likely to me.

Well, as far as I can remember from a Song explanation Andrew did in a german magazine around the time of SGWBM promotion, the song is about rape!

I've pretty much assumed the above as well. The lyrics are pretty sparse, but I think it's about being absolutely zonked, and Eldo clearly read Fear and Loathing (adrenochrome, gonzo amphetamine filth).
And the song is given weight by the movie, where Johhny Depp sips the adrenochrome and goes mental for a week (indeed, red eyes, and climbing up the walls, the curtains, clawing the carpet, bonkers!)
And the music just builds and builds...

I have never thought of "Kiss The Carpet" from a sexual point of view - NOW - I cant think of the song in any other way!
I asked those in my immediate vacinity - who dont know the song well and asked them what the phrase "kiss the carpet" means and i got the sexual response!
Perhaps ALL the Sisters song have a Sexual meaning - what about "Bury Me Deep" (Penetration) "Body Electric" (Sex Toys!)

Not sure if this is relevant, but I always thought that 'Flood 1' is about a chap wetting the bed.
Maybe Von used to be a bed-wetter when growing up?
ciao

I can only imagine Von's eyebrow move at that one!
I think both Floods are pretty sexual, he himself talked about only getting, ahem, wet in certain situations, but there's plenty of meaning to it all (as usual), esp Flood II, just about one of the best rock songs ever penned...
