Always thought it was German for "of".
As in Ulric von Bek.
Meaning Ulric of Bek, where the surname is a province or family estate.
Similar to the Dutch van, and usually without capitalisation.

Anybody out there speak German?

Tony James, as in bassist for the Sister 90/91.
He wasn't bad either - nothing too flashy but very functional.
Sadly, additional software for the good Doktor has proven cheaper than human wages.

you people are disappointing me ;-)

Where did you get the nickname 'Von' ?

It's the German version of the "van" before a Dutch family name, or the "de" in French. Hundreds of years ago it denoted aristocracy. I believe it was Tony James who first called me 'Von', for hanging out in Hamburg.

That was almost as boring as the first question.

You see it's dumb questions like that which proves I am only fit to wallow in chat forums that are NOT purely band related

i gather the original title was Baron von Eldritch? ;D

According to some sources Eldritch used the VON nickname a long time before Tony James teamed up with The Sisters.
Rumors have it that he signed postcards to friends back in the 80:ish with VON Eldritch.

@Basie & Erudite: I dunno if I'm reading into this issue incorrectly, but yes, it *was* the Tony James from Gen X and Sigue Sigue that joined ol' Android for Vision Thing... If I'm stating the obvious here, I'm sorry, and I promise to try to keep my mouth and feet separate in the future! :von:

I believe dear old Robin or Speedy Dave have some answers on this topic

FANQUEUE! Sin, I assumed that because Erudite didn't actually answer with an affirmative, as per usual, I was wrong and the Tony James mentioned was just another random Tony James who played a bass

Now I know! And yes, I see that it was indeed the man from S.S.Sputnik, Billy Idol's sparring partner and Janet S.Porter's bit of fluff

It all becomes clear......

thank you once again Sin

Sorry for any confusion, people.
I promise future postings will rise to new levels of pedantry, preventing future ambiguity.
Unless personal agenda or subtext warrants deliberate obscurity...

Ah, but it is the best way to build a mystique around myself, which I can later disown when it proves to be harming my public image and product sales.
