Daleks to sprout legs

Doctor Who fans are in for a special treat when the new series hits the screens - Daleks with legs.

The BBC is considering solving the greatest challenge facing the trundling terminators: that of climbing a simple flight of stairs. What's more, the new-look salt cellars may also have the ability to fly.

Tim Hancock, spokesman for the estate of Daleks creator Terry Nation, told UK tabloid the Sun: "We all accept that the Daleks were designed in the early Sixties and need to be updated. They have got to be able to move, be mobile, but they have also got to retain the initial look of the original Daleks about them."

Sorry to come over all nerdy here, but I seem to dimly remember, at some long ago misty point in time, that SOME Daleks already flew. With some kind of hissy propulsion system thingie. Didn't they? Or did I dream this? Is anyone else going to admit to knowing, and more to the point caring, about this kind of thing?

That graphic is indeed fab!

Yeah, they definitely flew, well hovered really, in the McCoy episode (Resurrection of the Daleks?), and managed to get up a flight of stairs.

I think they might have done the same in the early 70s, which would have made it "Planet of the Daleks" or "Death to the Daleks" I think - a Pertwee episode either way.

In the 60s comic they had little hover-platforms.

erm ... have I made myself look like a nerd now?
