Founding member of The Sisters of Mercy, a UK-born musical group that was popular throughout the 1980s and early 1990s. Actually, having stood beside him in the Blank Canvas at Leeds, I'd have to say 5' 8"/9" is about right.
It's just he some how contrives to look 6' + in all the videos.

i'm only about 5'9"/5' 10" and he looked considerable shorter than me when he was mooching about at york and leeds.

i dont think its really an issue - as you say his stage presence is huge - but i always thought of him as about 5'6"/5'7"

I am, as you know from the Angel, only 5' 4", and I reckon he was a good 4" taller than me.
But again, like you say, it's hardly important - though it should be noted that people do "settle" with age.

Any how, Neither of us is going to get all "pistols at dawn" over it.
