left on m*****n of revenge

THE place for your Sisters-related comments, questions and snippets of Sisters information. For those who do not know, The Sisters of Mercy are a rock'n'roll band. And a pop band. And an industrial groove machine. Or so they say. They make records. Lots of records, apparently. But not in your galaxy. They play concerts. Lots of concerts, actually. But you still cannot see them. So what's it all about, Alfie? This is one of the few tightly-moderated forums on Heartland, so please keep on-topic. All off-topic posts will either be moved or deleted. Chairman Bux is the editor and the editor's decision is final. Danke.

The m*****n thread lead me to wonder what trax were proposed for the 2nd album.
There's the m*****n stuff like 'Garden of Delight' and Ghostdance's 'Where Spirits Fly' and 'Yesterday Again'.

Anyone care to compile a list of stuff that were rehearsed/demoed or confirmed to have been written while the FLAA lineup were together?

Did someone say there was also artwork produced? Care to share?

Torch was apparently the final straw for Craig Adams.
Eldritch was later to remark (rather snidely) that the bass line was too much like a guitar part for Mr Adams, resulting in him walking out and :von: commenting "That's got rid of the deadwood."
A day later Wayne walked out and the rest is history, not to mention something of an inkie soap opera.

My memory is in good form here - must be the cab sav...

there's always the a cappella version of 'I've Got A Brand New Combine Harvester"

I doubt that the Ghostdance stuff was ever under consideration because by the time it came to the initial work on LOMAR Marx had already left.

During, or before, or shortly after the Hamburg debacle Wayne and Andrew played, compared and disapproved of eachothers new songs. Wayne talks about this in a rather interesting interview on swedish radio, a series called Bank from the late 80's, and I'll see if I can dig it up somewhere.

yep, i'm pretty sure it's "and", rathjer than "of".

as in "(we are) left (living) on m*****n and revenge", meaning the only thing that they have to keep them going is revenge.

which pretty much describes the feelings and events (certainly von's handling of the situation anyway) immediately after the split!

I've always thought that 'Left on m*****n and Revenge' was a crap name for an album.

not as crap as 'Children' or 'Carved in Sand' or 'Masque' or 'Neverland', though

Oh yeah. Sorry, a Freudian bugger.

Re- the Ghostdance stuff: 'Spirits' was soundchecked by the Sisters and Marx said recently that 'Yesterday Again' was written while he was still in the band.

I've always thought that the song "Spirits" (assuming the title wasn't a bootleggers invention) performed in several soundchecks bore no resemblance whatsoever to the Ghostdance song "Where Spirits Fly", although people say one is an early version of the other. I've listened to them back to back and noticed no similarities.

Also as the "Left on mission and revenge" album was only in the very early stages I'd seriously doubt any album cover artwork exists, cos to design an album cover you at least need to have a tracklist first, and that was a long way away if the stories are to be believed. I seem to remember someone in another thread saying they had the artwork, so if anyone has it, scan it you git and let us all see it.

Do we know approximate dates when Craig and Wayne left? I'd read somewhere that Craig left the day after the Royal Albert Hall gig but I dunno if that's true, and on 21.9.85 Eldritch & Hussey both made a guest appearance at a Skeletal Family gig in Hamburg so Wayne must have left sometime later.

Nah! Look at the original cover of The Teardrop Explodes Kilimanjaro. All the tracks are there, but not in the right running order and the line up omits (the great) Mick Finkler in favour of the less talented Alan Gill, even the remaster misses out Mick's guitar on Went Crazy! That annoys the hell outta me

Have another listen. The only difference is that the Ghostdance version has vocals!
