Zapruder's own first impressions of the assassination touched on the comic. He thought the President was "pretending" to be hit when the car emerged from behind a sign between Zapruder and Kennedy.

so the first shot is behind that large sign then.

I can kind of see why someone would think the president was joking. On the footage ive seen it certainly looks that way, till the head splatter.

There is also a doctored version of the film. Conspiracy whacko Bill Cooper used to show it at his talks. The chaffeur turns around and shoots Kennedy. Cooper used to sell copies of this video - until he was shot and killed himself.
