The sodding gig didn't happen. The PA was kaput - they couldn't hear themselves through the monitors and they faffed about for ages before James Ray went off in a strop. I'm not a happy bunny (although I did get a setlist and d00my got a hug off Mr Ray!) More details later. I'm knackered!

I guess it was a "blinding gig" if you enjoy listening to a band basically tuning up for 40 minutes, and a trollied Mr Ray telling various bods to "sort it out" and to "f*ck off"! Apparently the band had gotten together to rehearse only the day before, and had not been in the same room together for nearly a decade (it showed!) They said they couldn't play 'cause the onstage monitors weren't working (er, I thought that's what a soundcheck was for!?!) Anyway the setlist for the "gig that never was": (this was handwritten with guitar tabs marked next to each song in case somebody forgot what to play!)
Moth
Psychodalek
Badlands
Rev Rev Lowrider
Hardwar
Hell Blonde Chiarra
3rd Generation
Receiving
Chemical Erection (!)
Destination Assassination

You don't think our Dominion pal failed to actually get to the venue but didn't want to bust credibility by admitting this minor oversight.
Any self-respecting cognescenti would have been there, after all. Only the common herd miss out on these things.
Cynical? Moi?

I'll come out of my long-term lurking mode for this one.
Scardwel pretty much says it all. It was a complete waste of time. I even had a friend come over from Germany just for this gig. I suppose it's one to say you were at, but that's about it really.
I'm off to lurk again.

Any photos of this gig? And, just out of curiosity, how many Stetson wearers are there in London these days?

actually, more important than pics, if the show did sound that crappy, wouldn't be more fun to have a recording of this gig... and have it weeded out? please tell me if someone's friend could come all the way from germany one of you thought to bring a blasted tape recorder!
still hiding in waiting...

FFS!!!!
Has the penny not dropped yet??? There was no "gig" as such - i.e. no songs were actually sung or played! There were a few intermittent snippets of sounds coming from the PA while they attemped to sort things out, as well as Mr Ray's ranting and audience heckles
, but that was all.
I do have a recording of this farce but I'm keeping it to myself. To weed it out would be disrespectful to the band IMHO 'cause it's so embarassing. If you were in a band yourself you'd understand!

oh come off it! i meant it in jest and in no way was serious, and besides, if i came all the way from say here in the states to see a band that doesn't have enough sense to practice more than once in a decade, i wouldn't worry about the embarassment such a tape might entail...
either way it was a joke, and i didn't mean to offend you by the prospect...

To put it simply, the band couldn't get the monitors working, so they couldn't hear themselves so they couldn't tell how it was sounding and pulled out rather than put on a crap gig. which is fair enough. dissapointing, yes, but you've gotta respect the fact that they didn't want their first gig in 7 years to be a bad gig. They're perfectionists. I'm keeping my hopes up that Whitby's gonna be fantastic
There's a few pics at

I've had the opposite happen to me.
The monitors sounded fantastic, we were tight as f
uck, rocked up a storm but the crowd weren't getting into it. When we heard the soundboard recording and an audience tape, no wonder. What was coming out of the speakers was pure mince!
Nobbled by the headliners soundman,
Bastids!

We have heard from James Ray's Gangwar in the
last hour or so that they are no longer able
to play at the Whitby festival this weekend.
Unfortunately this is final and there is no
chance that the gig will actually take place.
If you know anyone who was intending to travel,
then please pass on the information.

So that will be the end of that little reunion.
makes the effort in travelling to see there last London gig almost worthwhile.....

yep
" We have been in contact with James Ray's Gangwar earlier today
and unfortunately they are no longer able to play at Whitby
this comming weekend. This is due to circusmtances involving
the band rather than WGW, but we understand that the descision
is final and that there is no chance of them being able to
play. Please pass this information on to anyone else who might
need to know.
Though this is a shame, we still have an excellent lineup of bands
for the weekend, and The Last Dance are more than capable of
acting as the headline act for the Thursday, as anyone who
has caught any of their Uk gigs this week can confirm. We do
appologise for the dissapointment of James Ray being unable to play,
but this is entirely due to circumstances beyond our control."
