I'm wondering, which (live) cover do you like best.
in no particular order:
Sugar Baby Love
I wanna be sedated
jolene
Confide in Me
and of course
Emma !!!
has anyone heard them ever sing "stop dragging my heart around"?

heard von's accapella version of 'stop dragging' - ok, but not really worth spending any amount of time trying to track down... more of a novelty that anythng else. his voice sounds a little, erm, "tight" on it.
hmm, fave live cover?
off the top of my head, in no particlular order:
comfortably numb (with 'some kind of stranger')
ghostrider
gimme shelter
emma
gimme gimme gimme
the numb/skos medley was a very very cool thing indeed

It's gotta be gimme shelter and Knockin' on Heaven's Door!
No question about that...
Though Jolene does raise a laff - always nice to hear a cover version that subverts the original, while still being 'faithful' to it...
The later covers seem to have an air of 'Oh, we'd better knock off another cover version, it's what's expected...but we're not gonna spend a lot of time on it' about 'em...IMHO!

Best cover ever has to be "Confide In Me", closely followed by "Comfortably Numb/SKOS".
And I like the over-the-topness of "Stop Draggin'..." too
IZZY.

Hi there, HisWimmNess - welcome to the forums!
Hmm...I'd have to cast my vote for "Comfortably Numb" and "Gimme Shelter." The thing is, I have no idea if I'd even remember any other covers that were played the last time I saw TSOM live, because I couldn't make out half the songs anyway! Von and his mumbling, I swear...

well call me retro boy, but surely
1969 & louie louie need a mention too.
Also, I really do like the stairway/joe/purple thingy......I think that would have worked well if it was given time.
I agree knockin' would be my fav old stylee cover too
mid life crisis stylee (90-93)
Numb
Gimmie shelter (possibly coz it really stood out from the crowd) &
erm... draggin' soz but I really liked it
New stylee
sugar baby love
glitter medely
confide in me
Overall it would be Numb, just awesome and perfect for the man himself

I'm surprised no-one's mentioned Silver Machine yet. Performed only twice in 1993 AFAIK, it was criminally dropped from the set for the Crystal Palace gig
Overall though, Comfortably Numb is the best IMHO (awesome in Porto and Munich last year), closely followed by Gimme Shelter and Confide In Me.

the sound quality of the silver machine version i have is appaling, so i always forget about it... all you can hear is a fuzzy drum pattern and a von howling in the distance...
hmm, no change there then?

the best live cover is "gimme gimme gimme" from abba, no doubt abut that. He performed "stop dragging my heart around" live during the 92 shows a capella, but it was more a kind of short howl (hehe)......

The whole Ghostrider-medlay thing always blew me away. Very f**ked up and very cool.

I've got to get behind the Comfortably Numb/Some Kind Of Stranger medley.
1969 was always rather good.
And for a dash of the absurd - Confide In Me.

Have the Sisters really done covers of these?? When??
I'm guessing its from the recent gigs, cos my collection of known recordings is pretty damn near complete apart from the last 3 years.
Oh, and my fave covers would have to be Gimme Gimme Gimme and Comfortably Numb/SKOS.

Yep, they have, the four summer 2001 gigs. I've got copies of 'em if you wanna trade.

Comfortably Numb/SKOS - without a doubt

Jolene

maybe i'm conservative but for me the most impressive one is still "Gimme Shelter".
of course, "Jolene", "Confide In Me" and "Gimme Gimme Gimme" are lovely too...
and the fact itself that Andrew made cover from "Bei Mir Bist Du Schön" - originally performed by swing-group The Andrew Sisters is amusing for me
