Dvd screengrabs help

I have a problem getting still frames off dvds. I have tried turning off hardware acceleration in XP and using PrntScr but then Windows Media player and Windvd won't work at all.
I have used Crystal which does work, I can play and screengrab from VOB files but it will only play 1 out of 50 dvds at all. It keeps saying 'cannot find video stream' yet all my dvds play fine using the two players I mentioned above.
Any ideas?

there's some shareware called "no. 1 dvd ripper" that shows a thumnbail of the dvd as it rips it.
you can grab these thummbnails with print-screen.... also, if you increase the application's window size it makes the "thumbnail" bigger, thus its quite big and not really a thumbnail anymore...
there must be an easier way though - i'd be interested to find out myself

Cheers Quiffboy, you've been very busy, very quickly! I'll try a couple of these ideas.

I dunno if you have the same problem, but I find that it doesn't work when the apple DVD player is running. I d/l-ed a 3rd party player called "VLC" (mainly to play VCDs, which apple DVD player won't play) but it plays DVDs too... and you can do screen grabs off it.
