way back on the mists of time when napster was but a wee young thing, someone somewhere named an mp3 as being by the sisters of mercy.

sadly, napster became very popular and people who use the internet are by and large very stupid, and unable to distinguish between the sound of the world's greatest living englishman and his rock and roll ensemble, and the dirge mentioned above.

thus a whole load of people with a sponge between their ears propagated the inaccuracy.

clicky

You mean you actually needed to listen to it to realise it was bogus?

Another problem with napster (and subsequent filesharing progs) is that people share their downloaded files before they've had a chance to listen to them first, so before they realise they've downloaded some wrongly titled piece of cráp someone else has already downloaded it off them. With faster net connections the cráp just gets spread all the more quickly.

with the lack of product Dan, you will scramble on to any life raft, even if you have had the movie on tape since the 80s and watched it several times

The most interesting question about this "problem" is how the confusion occured in the first place, and Quiff Boy has now explained it clearly. Thanks for that. The next thing to be answered: How can we make this confusion stop for ever? Can it be done? My contribution to the solution: Sharing an mp3 with the name "Gerard McMann - Cry little sister"

I have one that purports to be T-O-N covering that Britney Spears - Oh Baby! Baby thing, it's not T-O-N but it's still pretty good :D

It wouldn't work. People really are stupid.
A coupla years ago on winmx there was someone sharing "Sisters Of Mercy - EXIT (New Album).mp3". it was around 50mb which would suggest an entire album as one large mp3. After downloading a few minutes of some crap which sounded nothing like the Sisters I stopped the download and sliced off the first 300k of the file and renamed it "Sisters Of Mercy - EXIT - IT'S NOT THE SISTERS, DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME", and I still got UTTER MORONS downloading it from me.

Yes, people are dumb!

travis did a live cover of the above on the mark and lard show (bbc r1) acouple of years ago , its on the net (and my hard drive somewhere)

lost boys sound track is a regular in my tape player.
certainly not the sisters ( as we all know by now).annie nightingale had a fetish about that song, played it loads of timeson her sunday evening show.(showing my age now)
