I need some serious help with a crashed harddrive - I am trying to recover two specific files - it is an NTFS partition and I need some freeware to do this. Anyone there can help me?

how has it crashed?

is it your main drive or a backup? can you boot into windows? have you run scandisk at bootup? that can often patch things up.

failing that, if you can plug the drive into another pc and install it as a second hard drive, then have a look on google for "ntfs hard drive recovery" or similar. i'm sure there are a few freeware ones about :?:

also, this looks useful: http://www.runtime.org/

not tried any of them though. sorry :(

I've also found a copy of knoppix comes in handy at times like these. A bit of linux knowledge will help with that.

Like QB says, it depends on how badly the drive has crashed, if it's a physical thing then it might be costly, if it's a matter of the drive losing it's FAT or the like you may be in luck.

My friend in Gauteng's laptop drive also went bye-bye yesterday, must be something in the air.

Hope you get it sorted out though.
