Just seen it in the window of a second hand record shop in the Merrion Centre, Leeds. Thought someone might be interested. Highly recommended for the excellent re-working of Body Electric.

And you tell me this AFTER I spend £8 on it?
In related news, I looked for that £2.99 Floodland 12" earlier, and found it had gone but was replaced with a £2.99 Doctor Jeep b/w Knocking On Heaven's Door.
No, I didn't buy that either. a) My dad was there and b) I had no money.

Still a bargain. Some of us have been dumb enough to pay 75 dollars for the inferior earlier version.

A euro's worth about 70p. So that makes 6 pounds about 8.5 euros by my (calculator's) reckoning. Looks like you got a bargain too.

Not when one's parents don't see the point of me buying vinyls if I can't play them.

That's true. That's why I never told them I'd bought Body And Soul. They knew I bought Gift though. Those were in the days when I thought a fiver was cheap for Gift. -.-

Dark you can pick up a turntable at
Richer Sounds for less than fifty quid
Yes I know that's still a lot of money but it's Christmas soon

i think he needs one that has built in speakers though - those ones all plug into separates systems and need phono pre-amps etc...
...though to be honest the sound you're going to get from a standalone one is probably going to be sh*te anyway so i really wouldnt bother with that.
my advice would be to get one of those turntables for 50 quid, then save up and get a cheap seperates amp for 50 quid (the cambrodge al is not bad at all), then a cheap pair of speakers (mis
sions are pretty popular).
it might mean you'll have to wait a while but at the end of it you will have the beginnings of a decent stereo, and its all nice and modular so that as you got older and get more cash you can replace the various bits one by one with better stuff

I got Gale speakers with my first hi-fi set up; and I still use them (
these ones as it happens). Cheap CD players are OK but IMO the speakers are probably the most important part to get right.

Or you could go to a car boot and pick up a old Technics system for 30 quid.
I don't know the year of manufacture but I think Maggie was still in power. Works very well though. The only thing I've had to do with it is buy a new belt for the turntable.

My dad probably still has the speakers to his, even though he gave his turntable to my sister (it was a top of the range one, hydraulic arm, et al) and she never uses it. I think the speakers in question are the ones still used in our stereo in the lounge. I'll need to start earning now.
