standout concerts... know any?

THE place for your Sisters-related comments, questions and snippets of Sisters information. For those who do not know, The Sisters of Mercy are a rock'n'roll band. And a pop band. And an industrial groove machine. Or so they say. They make records. Lots of records, apparently. But not in your galaxy. They play concerts. Lots of concerts, actually. But you still cannot see them. So what's it all about, Alfie? This is one of the few tightly-moderated forums on Heartland, so please keep on-topic. Last night I listened to the Nijmegen-concert of 5/6/84 and ... once again it just blew me away! What a gig! :notworthy: :notworthy:

And it shows that it's the last (but one)concert of that tour... They played a very intense, yet relaxed show :? with lots of strange teasers (Temple of Love kicks in, but Eldritch mumbles 'nononono' and they cut it ... they played intros to Smoke on the Water and other stuff) Eldritch kept on talking with the crowd, telling that touring is just killing him (2 months later the good man collapses completely, remember) and they even played Fix, not exactly a standard in their setlists...
At the moment one of my fave'recordings...

What recordings are you very fond of ? What gig tripped your lights fantastic ;D ?

That one is probably the best.
Though I think you have your crowd-talk mixed up. From memory:

I should know, I've listened to that version a ton.
And at the start of Emma, he tells the audience they won't play 1969 because it's to old, and he's too drunk (though a couple of bars are played).

I was AT this gig - I managed to get a standing ticket! :eek:

It was a great gig! - During "Stop Dragging My Heart Around" you can myself and my good friend Carl shouting "F**K OFF" very loudly.

BTW Do you have this gig on CD - I have a full tape version and have always wanted a cd copy - are you able to help?

Shouting 'F**k Off' very loudly during that song seems perfectly logical to me :notworthy: . The 'Select' review compared :von: 's rendition of it to 'the last drunk on the bus' :notworthy: :lol: :!: :eek:

But otherwise, stunning stuff. I turned up with a couple of friends and no tickets, but managed to get some for the seats at the very back, top row of the arena. Consequently I witnessed the most gobsmacking lightshow since The Big Bang, alongside the finest gig ever.

Have you not sent said tape to Mr Fiend? If not, I've got it too, and given that he's already in the process, possibly, of converting my old tapes to CD, I can send that one his way too. I'm sure he won't mind, will you Mark :innocent: :wink: ;D . After which it will be weeded, and you've just claimed first dibs :notworthy: .

I have been after a CD copy of that gig since 1992!

I am trying to get all the Sisters gigs i was at on CD. Mark has kindly offered to copy my tapes - I still need to get a list PM to him - but I am lazy so and so.

Thanks in advance for the weed I am sure there will many interested parties. Also I am sure their are few of here who have stuff on tapes/videos that have rarely seen the light of day and its thanks to guys like Mark that we "The Fans" can get hold of this stuff.

As for the gig - I remember a video camera in with the sound desk - I wonder if a video of this gig was taped? Also do you remember "Comfortably Numb/SKOS" as the intro - what a sight that was - Lighters in the air or what!

Plus what did you think of the support bands, the only ones I remember the name of was "Sunspot" (or something) and they were great. The other band had 2 drummers, and a well known idiot on vocals thats all I can remember though.

Another thing to mention is that myself and 4 friends booked a taxi from South Wales to the NEC and back and it was on £410.00 when we go back to the wrong side of Cardiff! :eek:

The security guards asked us where we were from and I said that we got a taxi from Cardiff - you should have seen his face! :wink:

You guys are making me blush :oops:

Currently looking for a decent second-hand HiFi audio CD recorder so I don't have to keep bringing my tape player into work to hook it up to my computer. The boss gets a bit tetchy about me using his time ;)

Richer sounds doesn't seem too keen on stocking them any more (it has gone all home-cinema) but eBay is looking good so far...

All my vinyl onto CD; that would be nice ;D

it's been mentioned before, but the sight of goths desperatly trying to hold up their trousers - what was it? weapons reclaimation point - yeah, i was stopped too :eek:

were officially seated guests, spent most of the time dodging security who were trying to ensure it remained that way. ended up scaling the barrier between seating and standing ;D

NEC 92 - didn't catch any of the support, having timed it nicely to avoid them with well spent bar time :P .

Yep PIB, the Apocalypse Now ending was fab, shame they haven't used it since. Other memories include the spine-chilling Comfortably Numb, the red columns of light on Dominion, the blue 'rain' on Mother Russia, and the cheer (aka pandemonium) that greeted the intro to More. :notworthy:

Gigs don't get better than this, and unfortunately they never have. Though luckily enough I was in standard jeans and t-shirt, so wasn't subjected to the insane security measures. That would have put a dampener on things somewhat. :eek:

NEC 92 was my first Sisters boot and is still my favourite. To this day, I'm still cursing that I wasn't there :evil: Best versions of Ribbons and Gimme Shelter I've ever heard. It was the very first Sisters gig of a friend of mine - that must have been one hell of an introduction to them live!

I was at this one too. It was f**king excellent. I don't really remember the supports - maybe I was at the bar too (can't really recall because of the chemicals I had imbibed on the train on the way down - all legal of course :twisted: ).

However, I do remember the Sisters and that I had a great time - the only down side was that we couldn't get a train back until the morning so spent the night trying to sleep at the airport!

All part and parcel of the 'pleasure' of watching The Sisters in full flow. :wink: 8)

Up til the Thursday before I wasn't going to the gig. Happy coincidence led me to my flatmates shop (That Picture Shop, as was, in the Merrion Centre), where I found a colleague of hers who was willing and able to drive us down on a whim. :notworthy: :notworthy:

Which kinda makes up for that missed Fenton gig.

IIRC I wasn't going to the NEC gig until that morning. So I got a lift down even though I didn't have a ticket. And then some couple who were being thrown out (for begging to try and buy one of them a ticket IIRC) gave me the one ticket they did have, so I got in for free.

Then I lost my lift, but managed to blag a lift back as far as Manchester with someone else... just in time to miss the last train back to Leeds. Hanging round Piccadilly Gardens all night with the rent boys was... interesting!
