Apart from the records, the gigs, the lyrics, the snidey remarks, the shades, the hats, the flowery shirts...
Me? Songs Of Leonard Cohen. Would never have found it otherwise.
You?

Gave us the idea to take certain substances and listen to his music until late on into the night with flashy lights and smoke machines - ahhhh those were the days (my friend)

You Francis.
And your wonderful family.
Covers; they always make you go delving. I was in mateland last week and Kylie's Confide In Me came on. Boy did I know the lyrics.
Much to my 13-year-old daugther's chagrin.
Just remembered ...Tilburg and me!
Oh, and making Black the first black, before everyone (including the fashionistas) decided black was the new black whilst we are knew black was the first black and not the new black and just ...black.
Hope that helps.

If FFS was here we could have had a triangular tournement sponsored by Johnsons. Shame.

An enjoyment of music/lyrics that at first seem good and on further interest get better.

He served me (and the rest of the front row) some cake in York during the Exxile tour. It was quite surreal.

Although I like Eldo's music, there are people who can make me feel embarrassed for liking it (and goth stuff in general).

buying his records, going to his gigs, buying souvenirs... etc.

He's gotten me into forums (before I got into this one, I've always kept a safe distance between forums and me
)
Thanks to him I discovered all sorts of music I would have never found out about without first getting into the Sisters (this goes for some bands that pop up around here sometimes, etc)
Err... Lots more of course, but that's what comes up first
For him? Record buying, and buying tickets to this summers gigs, I guess, and bring fresh, young blood into the fan base (well, I've been only following them since some years, so...)

Wellwellwellywell...
I can put my signature underneath everything that has been mentioned so far, but I feel the need to add my tacky/kitsch bit:
Von has provided me with an idea for my thesis and therefore has rescued me from the void and made sure I could finish my studies in dignity.
There. Now I feel better...
What have I ever done for him that hasn't been mentioned here before?
Behaved like a proper front row clamper, but without the "Andy!", "Andy?", "Aaaaandyyyyyy........." bit .

So what was your thesis about
This is getting interesting

Whoops, I didn't mean to fish for compliments. It's just that I'm slightly out of my mind because not only have I finished it but I also got a very encouraging feedback from my professor, that I'd never have dared to expect. So I feel a lot of gratitude to everybody who made it possible.
The initial hint were Von's comments about the war in Iraq in 2003. And I asked myself whether all those people who applauded and cheered were indeed of the same opinion or not. So my thesis was about music and politics, and I have found out (among other things) that politicisation through music does happen under certain circumstances.

Given me cheekbones by "influencing" me to ape his lifestyle.
That and the delusion (during my teenage years) that I was asserting
my originality by copying someone else's image.
Go figure.
PS
But the records, flashing lights and gigs were pretty damn fine, too!
