That's a good story, Ruffers - I agree with Von that it is impossible to imagine him spreading love and hugging everybody. I don't know if any of us would be ready for that (apart from BP et al...). So stick to the speed and the aloof arrogance, please.

I was walking by a record shop some months ago, and what did I see there when looking to the vinyls hanging on the window: an Alice bootleg wich had something to do with Petrol, which is the hottest spot in Antwerp at the moment (lots of pre-hype gigs)...

So it is true, they're becoming hot again, and I saw on the site you linked to it had something to do with Soulwax, so, it might have come from there

Yesterday, I went to the big city of Brussels and, while havin' a walk with my dearest, my eye spotted a Sisters of Mercy white label 12" in a small record shop...

Needless to say that I forgot about everything (sorry love ), went inside and bought the f**ker!

It's actually an edit of the old Alice and a pretty good one! It's about 6 minutes long, the intro is stretched and has some subtle ( ) sound FX on the doctor & stuff... Most important is that the original feeling of the song has been maintained, the vocals are Eldritch as we know 'm

On the b-side are two more fine edits: Shack Up by the mighty A Certain Ratio and Satisfaction by Devo. Great stuff as well!

These edits are very good for dj's to mix so maybe we'll hear good ole' Alice next time 'in da club'!

I asked for more info about it and the guy claimed that it was from someone he knew, but he wouldn't say more... (ah...the mystery...)
(could be Soulwax, could be mr schwabbs from around the corner, could be anything)

Perhaps it's the same I saw, which seemed to have something to do with Petrol, I don't recal the other tracks though, but it was sold in a recordstore in the beginning of Lange Nieuwstraat (in Antwerp), so if you want you could check it out...

Yeah, I'd like to put it on, but it's a 12" record and I don't know exactly how I can transfer that into lots of 0's & 1's (the digital way )... So, that may take me some time to figure it out. I'm kind of helpless when it comes to computers ... Any suggestions?

Yes, this is the one! And I agree with you that the Devo edit is pretty good.

About the belgian dj duo... it could be the Dewaele Bros, but they tend to mash things up a little bit more than these edits. I think that other magic duo (from way back) Mo & Benoeli are more likely to produce something like this. They were always into this kind of music (AND played this during their sets sometimes) and they do lots of re-edits ... Wanna bet?!
