"Bootlegs of the Sisters Of Mercy’s underground anthem Alice popped up in London record shops this week, suggesting the massively influential Goth legends could be about to become the latest early 80s club pioneers to enjoy a career reappraisal."

Can't say I ever thought of Von and the boys as "club pioneers" but there you go.

That's a good story, Ruffers - I agree with Von that it is impossible to imagine him spreading love and hugging everybody. I don't know if any of us would be ready for that (apart from BP et al...). So stick to the speed and the aloof arrogance, please.

So, will those of you youngsters who still have control of your bodily functions be bopping to this soon in one of those newfangled discotheques?

The Sisters have always been a dance band to me.

I just re-read the link - "anybody could have made the high energy remake"

So it sounds like it's different. Anyone heard it?

And I wonder what Von would make of a Hi-NRG version

The title of this thread realy confused me at first.

If they are so massivley influential how come I've never even heard of this band "Alice Boots"

But I'm an idiot anyway

Glad I'm not the only one, zalty.

Who said we have to reappraise the Sisters? I wasn't aware they'd slipped below some invisible line where they can no longer be counted...
Glad to see he's still relying on amphetamine logic though.

I know I will, Lucretia is more danceable though.

Presumably this is just the Alice Dirty Funker remix which some hip cool cutting edge young London journo has finally picked up on.... 1 year late :x

Or is it really something nu? Does anyone know anymore about this? Is Eldo infact morphing into a euro ebm Apoptygma Berzerk style techno god at long last? perhaps his come back single could be our next eurovision anthem........

I was walking by a record shop some months ago, and what did I see there when looking to the vinyls hanging on the window: an Alice bootleg wich had something to do with Petrol, which is the hottest spot in Antwerp at the moment (lots of pre-hype gigs)...

So it is true, they're becoming hot again, and I saw on the site you linked to it had something to do with Soulwax, so, it might have come from there :D

"creating dance floor friendly rock music that dominated early 80s new wave clubs from London to New York and beyond."

Sorry? It was cock rock that dominated where I was :( We were allowed a small side room to indulge in the "dance floor friendly rock music" that was the Sisters

" A speed (amphetamine) person " thank goodness they gave us the proper name for speed

"‘I love everybody idea’. I really can’t handle that, he explained.".....and he always came across as a real hands on person :von: (dontcha think ;D )

So it sounds like it's different. Anyone heard it?
Yesterday, I went to the big city of Brussels and, while havin' a walk with my dearest, my eye spotted a Sisters of Mercy white label 12" in a small record shop...

Needless to say that I forgot about everything (sorry love  ), went inside and bought the f**ker!

It's actually an edit of the old Alice 8) and a pretty good one! It's about 6 minutes long, the intro is stretched and has some subtle ( :? ) sound FX on the doctor & stuff... Most important is that the original feeling of the song has been maintained, the vocals are Eldritch as we know 'm :P

On the b-side are two more fine edits: Shack Up by the mighty A Certain Ratio and Satisfaction by Devo. Great stuff as well!

These edits are very good for dj's to mix so maybe we'll hear good ole' Alice next time 'in da club'! ;D

I asked for more info about it and the guy claimed that it was from someone he knew, but he wouldn't say more... (ah...the mystery...)
(could be Soulwax, could be mr schwabbs from around the corner, could be anything)

And has this mix got a name to look out for that you know of? :notworthy:

(Maybe on soulseek, or limewire..... )

Perhaps it's the same I saw, which seemed to have something to do with Petrol, I don't recal the other tracks though, but it was sold in a recordstore in the beginning of Lange Nieuwstraat (in Antwerp), so if you want you could check it out...
Google doesn't seem to find anything

Anyway... Back to the books ;D

(Oh and weeding/soulseek/something else would be very nice indeed :P)

The 12" is called Low Power 001 - Re-Edits.

It has three tracks :

Tracklist:

1. Sisters of Mercy - Alice
2. A Certain Ratio - Shack Up
3. Devo - Satisfaction

Says on the info I found - Three re-edits by a Belgian dance music duo... mmm, wonder who that could be???? ACR, Sisters of Mercy and Devo (the best one we think) all chopped and extended for your DJ pleasure.

I've ordered it anyway! 7.99 from Pure Groove.

The guy from the shop said that there were not many left... and probably will not be repressed . Not sure tough

Putting it on the weeding list?! :innocent:
Yeah, I'd like to put it on, but it's a 12" record and I don't know exactly how I can transfer that into lots of 0's & 1's (the digital way  )... So, that may take me some time to figure it out. I'm kind of helpless when it comes to computers  ... Any suggestions?

Yes, this is the one! And I agree with you that the Devo edit is pretty good.

About the belgian dj duo... it could be the Dewaele Bros, but they tend to mash things up a little bit more than these edits. I think that other magic duo (from way back) Mo & Benoeli are more likely to produce something like this. They were always into this kind of music (AND played this during their sets sometimes) and they do lots of re-edits ... Wanna bet?! ;D ;D ;D
